70's dance party! What are you listen' to tonight?
Listening to some crappy Mexican music in my monster cafe. Oh, the sacrifices I make!
I sort of take offense to that comment...especially since you are not a Mexican.
Now...yes...a lot of it is crap...that's because narco banda is the fave among the working class and poor right now...and many is indeed disgusting stuff due to its violence-induced lyrics...I can't stand that garbage.
However...Mexican music has many types...just like in the USA...you just can't group them all in the same basket.
You have wonderful traditional boleros...like from old school and legendary Javier Solis and Trio los Panchos.
Classic ranchera music from the immortal Pedro Infante, Lola Beltran, and Jose Alfredo Jimenez...and the classically trained ranchera tenor voice of the awesome Jorge Negrete.
Then you have classy Danzón from the Veracruz region.
Corridos and norteñas from the northern states.
Pianists like Agustin Lara and Armando Manzanero.
Tenors like Rolando Villazón, Ramon Vargas, and Francisco Araiza.
New Age Mexican electronic artist like Jorge Reyes.
Rockers like Maná, Café Tacuba, and of course, the legendary Carlos Santana.
So you see...you just can't say you hate Mexican music in general...can't lump all of it together like that...
...but yes...narco banda music does indeed suck...I'm sure we can agree on that one.
