That commercial isn't all that sleazy other than skirt length, which is
      negilable... and "shocking"? Ha.

I WILL offer that it IS a pretty cheap gag.

It's not sleazy as much as it's setting up the dad as someone to be overcome because he doesn't want his daughter dressing skimpy. It sends a bad message about dads trying to look after their daughters.

              ????

This thread, and all the defensive Dads in it (plus others concerned)
is proof that it's a dead on/relatable scenario.

As I said earlier, the only thing I find distasteful about is that it's overkill
on the idea... such that it'll give affirmation to the "borderlines" or
those over the border regarding "flouting Dad"... the idea itself alone
              isn't scandalous though.

The trick is: To raise your daughter right... then it doesn't matter
              WHAT length her skirt is.

As a father of 4 daughters I can tell you that a skirt like that would have never made it in my house to begin with. Fathers are nearly always portrayed as the gullible overseer of household rules. Only to have their rules bypassed by witty children or overridden by the mother; it is what makes for a funny sitcom. However, I am not really bothered by the commercial... only because there are worse influential stereotyping programs on TV. We limit our children's TV intake and quantity to avoid excessive exposure to bad influences. They are going to see it eventually, my job is to give them the moral and ethical fabric to help them discern right from wrong, proper from improper, and hope when the time comes they make the right decisions.

Yes, I am unhappy with that whole trend. It was funny, different and groundbreaking when Homer Simpson and Al Bundy came on the scene, now it seems to be the rule.

I'm glad I am not the only one that hates the recent trend in commercials to make the husband/father look like a complete idiot. I can't stand it. I will go out of my way to NOT buy something from a company that uses this kind of advertising.

My father was the kindest man I have ever known. Far from an idiot, he worked his rear off to support our family and was liked by so many people as he made friends with everyone. Both my parents were PKs (Pastor's kids) from back when Pastor's had to have another job too as you didn't make much money starting churches in a tent. My Dad walked the walk and never just talked the talked. Too bad my estranged sister didn't learn to do the same thing. Men like him deserve better then to be portrayed as a boob.

BTW, just for the record, I am adopted. My sister, who is 5 years older, is not. I won't get into the problems that caused me. I heard enough of "your not real" to last my lifetime. I am Jewish and proud of it but I was raised in a loving home by a couple of wonderful, loving Swedish parents!

The idea of making the husband/father a boob with a sharp conniving wife goes back earlier than the Simpsons... See about every second episode of the Flintstones.

There's a longer version where after the daughter leaves, the dad flies into a rage and destroys the house. Totally spent, he passes out and we see the wife removing his sweat-stained clothes and happily washing them in Tide. Waking up hours later, he opens his dresser and notices how fresh and bright his clothes are. He realizes how wrong he was, and the commercial ends with a family group hug.
