I've never head of Joakim Soria, but this stance he is taking is beyond cool. How many athletes yearn to have a cool nickname always associated with them? I'd guess a large percentage. He wants to get rid of his due to the negativity it reflects.
I personally think this is one of the coolest nicknames I've evern heard, but given the recent rise in violence in Mexico, I applaud him. He's known as the Mexicutioner. I'm sorry, that's just badass. Too bad current events make this in poor taste.
This is the kind of athlete we want kids to have posters of. He just goes out there, plays the game and goes home. No bravado, no ego, just heart and integrity. Looking at his stats, he's pretty darn good.
It's rare we get a positive sports story, so I thought I'd share. I'm probably the only baseball fan here, but this story transcends all sports.
