For all you Pickers/garage sale freaks like me...

What is your favorite non-toy piece you have ever kept, not sold? Some one asked me this on another forum when I posted my finds today.

Mine would be this bronze sculpture of two little girls. It came from an estate sale and I didn't pay garage sale prices for it, but it reminds me of my two daughters, and is my favorite non-LSU piece I have ever kept.

I don know the value of it, I paid $200 for it. If or when I ever get tickets to the Antique Roadshow again, I will bring it. It is a Clodian.

Florida garage sales suck because all the good stuff was sold before the old folks moved down here in garage sales up north.

That's what my brother says. He lives in the panhandle and says it is all junk. He has been doing some good business by having ads in the paper, asking for toys, sports, vintage stuff.

Most of his calls come from south Alabama.

When I was 16 I got a plaster wall hanging of a nude guy in a hat, large tie (that covers everything), and sun glasses that says "Let's Boogie". I paid 75 cents for it, and it's hanging in my toyroom.

My favorite is probably the four big boxes of vintage Fiestaware dishes (cups, saucers, plates, platters, bowls, pitchers, etc.) I bought in the early 1990s. I use them every day and I'll probably have them the rest of my life..

I bought this old wooden chest, with a arched top, basically looks like a treasure chest, dated around the 1920's, have it in my hall way, for shoes etc.

Probably my favorite yard sale find that was not for resale is my chuckwagon. Its looks to have been made in maybe the 60's for a Boy Scout troop. About 3' x 2' x2' and was full of old melmac dishes, pots pans, everything the troop needed to cook while camping. Got it for $10 and use it when I go camping.
Every year a local troop has a yard sale and it is HUGE!!! last year they had 7 of the biggest u-haul trucks come in tottaly full, plus what the familys and friends of the scouts bring. Had to make 2 trips to the house to unload the car and only spent about $80 for everything. This past year also found a nice Vader helmet and voice box for $1, brand new in box propane camping heater from the 60's for $3, and tons and tons of toys! Cannot wait till this years one!

My favorite find was actually in at a booth in an Antique Emporium. A dealer apparently had a barn full of old stuff and seemed to not really know how to price things...either too high or too low. I found an old Washington Redskins felt pennant that had a few folds in it but easily ironed out. At that point I didn't know much about them. I was told it was from the 1960's and he wanted $30 for it. I thought that sounded reasonable and would look nice in my den. I got home and to my great delight found out it was actually from the 1940's!!! It was also worth somewhere between $200-$300. It was the joy of finding something that I had no intent on flipping and finding out that it was much older and worth more than I paid for it.
