World's Largest Toy Collection For Sale

    Associated Press
NEW YORK — You wouldn't want to throw these toys in the playroom bin, even if you had one big enough.

Sotheby's auction house of New York is brokering the sale of American collector Jerry Green's 35,000 vintage toys and trains. He hopes that an institution or individual will buy them and donate them to a museum.

Sotheby's is putting 5,000 pieces on display until the end of the month. The whole collection is valued in the tens of millions of dollars but will not be auctioned.

The toys date from 1850 to 1940 and include rare, handmade and historically significant European pieces. There are replicas of actual train stations, bridges and buildings that were destroyed during both world wars. There are also villages, carousels and Ferris wheels.

Wow. I sure hope a museum does buy them, that would be such a treat to see in entirety.

His statement about hoping someone will buy them and donate them to a museum doesn't make sense to me. If he wants it to go to a museum so bad, why doesn't he donate them himself?

Yeah, I didnt want to come off as a braggard, but this is one of my smaller collections....I have several more, including multiple sealed cases of WGSH, stored in high-security storage units throughout the US and Eastern Europe...I prefer to store my cases of Baravelli stuff a bit closer to Italy though, for sentimental reasons...

Sounds like quite the collection. Instantly reminded me of Mr. Birnkrant's collection:

My thoughts exactly. Why not donate them himself!

Too many toys. Not enough space!
