    My Brother's Greatest Find....(kind of)

My brother deals in sports cards and memorabilia. He deals mostly at card shows across the south, from FLA to TX. He lives in Panama City, Fl and works at Club La Vela.

One of his co-workers asked him if he could sell something for him. It is one of the three original death certificates issued for Jerry Garcia. California issued three of them, one for the family, one for the state, and one for the doctor. The doctor gave it to his son, who sold it to his best friend. The best friend is the twin brother of my brother's co-worker. The twin brother gave it to his brother.

It is a hand signed, state sealed, document. My brother called Sotherby's and they referred him to a auction house in California. They told him it is valued around $2000 (I figured alot more). They are going to make sure it is legal to sell, and will put it in their next auction.

      Wow...crazy.

I remember that Elvis auction years ago where they sold a lot of his stuff....I kept thinking I could never afford any of it because I was sure everything would be worth thousands...but then later I heard that they sold his American Express Charge Card for something like $50 or maybe $500...I don't remember....but I'm sure its worth much more today.

Jerry has some very passionate fans...I'm sure that kind of item will do well.

I may have a tendency to overestimate the value of stuff like this---but,
yeah, seems like that thing is worth a LOT more than $2,000
That's quite the item. He's like one of the biggest rock icons ever.

              hey--if that's the case w/the check value---you'd think so wouldn't ya
(regarding the much higher value of the death cert)--
-its a DEATH CERT for cripes sakes---although it IS lacking his signature-
--it STILL is such a monumental document for a celeb

I hope he didn't sign it!!!

My brother is just hooking the guy up with the right people, he is not taking a cut or anything. My brother has dealt with a couple auction houses before with some very rare sports memorabilia, i.e. Shoeless Joe Jackson bat.

Most big stars with huge estates have multiple-upon multiple legal death certificates.
I wouldn't be surprised if someone of his stature had over 100.
                  3 seems unlikey, imo.
I would not trust there was only 3 issued unless I had more proof than word of mouth.

I think it's kind of morbid myself.

You never know with stuff like this...the Sotheby's estimate sounds reasonable but you never know if you get a few bidders that want it bad, it could go for an insane price.
