Sometimes It Sucks To Have A Dad Who's A Toy Collector

My son was whining for a new toy today and I told him I once had to wait 35 years to get a toy I really wanted.

I think its hilarious that I ask my kids if they want to go to Toy R Us and the grown and ask if they have to.

When they get older they will flat-out refuse to go! Then you have to go by yourself and pretend you're shopping for your kids. I wish I lived as close to a Toys-R-Us as you do.

When the kids use to see me get boxes of figures in the mail, they would say "Why is it you get so much stuff and we can't?" I said, "Because I did the job I was suppose to and earned them. You get yours as you earn them too." In response they said, "But we have to wait six weeks for our grades while you get your stuff all the time." I shrugged and said, "That should serve as a reminder why good grades count. One day you can be a Toy Master like myself. Study well." Something about that image stuck and they've done pretty well ever since.

My boy has great respect for the vintage stuff, it's never a problem. My collection is housed in one half of the giant walk in closet in his room.

He's got his own Megos, but really, it's ALL about Thomas right now. If Superman had a smokestack he'd be much more popular around here.

yeah, when my kids were old enough I let them play with things of mine that were not valuable and had no sentimental value to me, but to be honest, some things are still in boxes hidden away or I've borrowed my mom's storage to keep them the way I would like to remember them. I was very gentle on my toys as a kid...my offspring are not.

it's ALL about Thomas right now
Ain't that the truth. My 5 year old son would play with his track and trains 24/7 if I let him. (Although his Happy Meal Hulk was smashing bridges the other day and his imaginext Superman came and saved Thomas)
                  It's all good!

My boys are into Thomas as well. I often wonder if they'll be searching eBay when they're 30-something looking for the hard to get Stanley train.
