Superman Producer Ilya Salkind Is Missing

A Friend of film producer Ilya Salkind says the Executive Producer of Superman, Superman II, and Superman III, has gone missing in Mexico City. Salkind’s friend, James Buccelli, is going to send an email overnight w/ information and photos.

Salkind apparently left for Mexico City last week, has a residence there, but has not been heard from by friends or family. His family are apparently in the process of filing a ‘Missing Person’s Report’ w/ Mexican authorities. They will also be contacting the US State Dept.

He is a native of Mexico City. He apparently has several children, and was married to Jane Chaplin, daughter of Charlie Chaplin.

Maybe he is just chilling out, relaxing with his thoughts alone somewhere....Sure hope there is no foul play involved..

"Filing a report" with the Mexican Policia, eh? Mrs. Chaplin, make sure you bring plenty of bread to line those pockets, 'cause those 'authorities' down Mexico way are often as crooked as a candy cane - Almost as shady as the beat cops in NYC... ALMOST!

I have to admit, when I read this, the first thing I thought of was the rumors that the Salkinds had ties to criminal organizations. I've heard that rumor in several articles I have read on them and the Superman movies. It could all be lies, and even if true, it may be totally unrelated to this.

It's hard to get a bead on Ilya Salkind. In interviews he comes across as an enthusiastic, charming guy. But most of the Superman histories all but crucify him and his father for firing Richard Donner, and the seemingly-underhanded way they brought Richard Lester into the franchise. Apparently their tactics on the Three Musketeers movies didn't garner them any fans in Hollywood either, making two movies from one and trying not to pay those involved for the second. I think the screen actors guild even had to write some kind of amendment to protect actors from such thing happening, and it bears the Salkinds name.

Either way, I hope this story turns out to be a big misunderstanding and he is fine.

Perhaps he owes big time money...and this was a warning beating.
