A town near me uses a molasses mix on the streets. And the NYS Thruway is using beet juice!

I don't think the beet juice/molasses mix is a cost cutting measure. I think I heard that it was good in that it helped keep the salt sticking to the roads rather than continually having to salt and resalt the same roads over and over again.
