Anyone remember Farrell's Ice Cream Parlors?

The bubble gum thread reminded me of the big Jaw Breakers and other candy that I would get at a restaurant at our local plaza called Farrell's. They would have this "candy room" where you went to pay your bill with gum, rock candy, jaw breakers, sticks, etc. They used to have these great sized ice cream boats and would come out beating a big bass drum for your birthday. (And I don't know how they were able to do this even back then) but they would have this big bowl of ice cream for a birthday party that all the kids could dig in all at once. They would also put those little color plastic menagerie animals which you would find in the ice cream. I'm surprised a kid never choked on one.

They closed a long time ago, but I think someone started them up again in a few spots in the country.
    It's all good!

They had one in the North Riverside Park Mall outside of CHicago. Loved that place for birthdays.

I remember those! I remember being scared to death as a kid cause they would have drums beating and the place was LOUD!! I always wonder what ever happened to them.

Went to Farrell's in the Staten Island Mall after seeing Star Wars at the Island theater... Ahhh, man... Those were the days.

There was one here in Oakland, I think, during the late 70s, early 80s.

Yup. There was in Rosemead, Ca that we would frequent and coincidentally enough, it was right next to ToysRUs and Toytown. So it was blast and treat. Ice Cream and Megos and Star Wars figures. Talk about heaven for a 8 year old.

Looks like there are two locations in SoCal and two in Hawaii. I know where I'm going next time I visit family in L.A.

Somewhere in the murky depths of my basement costume corner, I still have one of their foam boater hats with the red, white and blue paper band on it.

My favorite restaurant of all time. I loved the music played there and listen to The Squirrel Nut Zippers because it reminds me of Farrell's.

They had the pig's trough and the zoo as the best ice cream treats.
