Blu-ray discs are so cheap now it's crazy.

I'm still not going to replace my DVDs - most of my films are older - and unless it's a fantastically superior transfer it probably won't matter much anyway.

I snagged a player for $50 after Christmas, my wife was not happy. Trouble is, I couldn't find a single one I would purchase, I don't need to buy "Planet of the Apes" for a fifth time.

Do you like the movie "The Warriors", Brian? If so, get that on Blu-ray. The picture is astounding. It looks like a movie filmed a year ago. Other movies that are well worth the purchase if you want a much better looking movie over the DVD:

        Flash Gordon
        Halloween
        Logan's Run
        Alien
and a few others I can't think of at the moment.

At our local supermarket chain, QFC, BR discs are 10 bucks. Mostly MGM titles.

                  Still doesn't interest me.

I'm happy with DVD and will stick with them until they don't make them anymore.

Do all the Blu ray players play regular dvd's? And reg DVD-r's? If so, does a Blu ray change/enhance the quality of a regular dvd at all?

                    Thanks

Blu-Ray players do upscale the picture quality of a standard DVD to an extent, yes.

I wonder if the cheapie blu-rays will have any problems reading certain discs. My current cheapie DVD player has this problem with some DVD's. It doesn't seem to be an issue with any scratching but more of a dvd compatability problem. I have all of the Sopranos seasons on DVD and right about the middle of Season Six Pt. 1, my dvd player would not read the discs. I tried everything to no avail. If I pop it into my computer DVD player it has no problem reading it.

                            Logan's Run looks great!

And just to clarify, blu-ray players will play DVD's and blu ray players will hook up to regular TV's and play blu-rays on regular TV (without HD, of course)
