Do you review your bills closely?

I just recently looked at my cable bill and noticed that the price went up suddently.

The most noticeable difference was a change in rates in HBO, Showtime, Starz from $5 per channel to $10 per channel. But then I noticed a couple of other charges that they threw in there without asking me. There was a $1.99 fee called service coverage (I asked about it and found out that it covered me if a cable technician needed to come to my house...I never asked for the coverage). There was also a $5 charge for cable modem rental (I own my cable modem and never rented one from them). While I was on the phone with them to have them remove the cable modem rental and service fee coverage; I told them to bag the HBO, Showtime, and Starz. I'll watch series or movies here and there but certainly not $30 a month worth. Of course, they tried to counter by dropping it down to $6 per channel but I still told them "no thanks". Close to $37 a month in savings. I was already considering cancellation of the cable channels and basically blew a gasket when I saw the other charges thrown in there for good measure. Now, I feel like I have to look at every single bill closely to make sure I'm not being charged for something I didn't ask for or want.

Hell how many people looked at their phone bill and realized they had been paying a fee that supported the Spanish American war? That should tell you something.

We had a $40 increase on our cable bill this month. "Supposedly" the bundle that we had when we signed up had expired. Some major changes have now been implemented.

I'd shudder to look at my cable bill.. I allowed my wife to have it, especially with me being gone for a year at a time for deployments.

I'd STILL hate to look at it, but would like to just eliminate cable all together, just watch DVDs.

Ever since I got netflix I've been considering dumping cable all together.

My wife and I were just talking about ditching cable this morning. We'll have to buy a few seasons of Spongebob to keep the kids happy, but that is a drop in the bucket compared to the monthly charge.

Netflix has several seasons of spongebob(cailou,cat/dog,franklin,veggie tales, barney, rugrats, back to the barnyard and many more) on que. It's the best $8 a month I have ever spent.Compared to my cable bill.

I read an article recently about a family who cut their cable bill to about $10 or $15 a month without really feeling like they were doing without. Apparently, they purchased an HDTV antennae for local programming and claimed that it looked better on the antennae than it does coming through cable lines. They purchased their own DVR for recording shows. I think they streamed most shows from Discovery Channel, etc. from the various websites to their TV in HD and paid for a Netflix internet subscription. I am going to research further but might go that route. The only thing that worries me (bothers me a bit) is our cable company Comcast purchasing NBC/Universal. I don't like the idea of a cable provider owning all the content too. There are rumors they might make a bid for ABC/DISNEY. I would have to think that this will be met with a lot of anti-trust challenges.
