anyone ever file a claim on a lost usps parcel?

    Hiya folks,

Looking for info on filing a claim for a lost usps package.
I sent a domestic priority package that was, in the words of the USPS, 'misposted'. The item was apparently sent to the wrong address, then given back to the deliverer and has since disappeared.

I did not have insurance on the item, and I am pretty sure the USPS will not pay for my loss. However, I am a little peeved that they, by their own admission, lost the parcel. I personally feel that if they lost the parcel, they did not hold up their end of the bargain and thus should refund the postal fees I paid.

Anyone else have a similar situation happen?

    thanks - rche

A package I sent once got lost, but I had insurance and was able to collect.

Try going down to your local post office and speak to the post master.

I doubt you can collect though.

I am sure I cannot collect on the items lost. I am just burned that they will admit they lost the thing and still charge me the shipping for it.

I am refunding the purchaser their monies, as I think any seller should do if they are not able to uphold their end of the bargain. I see the USPS as not completing the job, and yet I have paid them in full. burn

My personal experience with the USPS is that they are dead on 95% of time...everything is received...no problems. It's the 5% that is frustrating. It doesn't matter if you have delivery confirmation, etc. The USPS will take no responsibility unless you insure the item...and even then they will try to get out of it. For me, if it is a fairly inexpensive item...I send USPS with delivery confirm. If it is slightly expensive...I will add insurance. If it is really expensive, I go with UPS or FedEX. I have never had to file a claim with either fortunately and don't know if they try to get out of insurance claims but can only say that I have never had a problem with damage issues with either one of them but quite a few with USPS.

That really sucks. I had trouble with high dollar items a couple times at my local PO. I had insurance both times, but luckily the stuff turned up so I did not need to use it.
