What are some bands or artists you saw live back in their prime. By in their prime I don't mean reunion tours 20+ years later. Stuff that makes the young ones go "wow you saw that!".

Like I said on another thread I seen the full original Beach Boys perform (including Dennis and Brian)
Also, not sure of this counts but I seen the original Beatlemania on Broadway
Also, this isn't a concert but it was concert-ish .....
I seen Steve Martin perform live in the late 70's during his Wild and Crazy Guy / King Tuts days.Last edited by Mikey; Jan 14, '11, 2:59 PM. -
Oh that's easy... KISS 1977. Love Gun tour. Nothing like it before or since. My legs shook seeing them live. Remember, all we had back in those days were magazines. To see these larger than life characters explode out from Circus and Hit Parader magazine was mind blowing. Here's a review of what was on that tour...

Saw plenty more but that was my favorite.
The Police - Synchronicity tour
Van Halen - 1984 and 5150 Tours...Hmmm. Which one do I favor?
Foreigner - Foreigner 4 Tour
Journey - Escape Tour
Alice Cooper - From the Inside
The only band I regret not being able to see is Queen. I think they came through Louisville only once and that was during their News of the World tour, when "Another One Bites the Dust" was massive.Last edited by MIB41; Jan 14, '11, 3:09 PM.Comment

Queensryche - Building Empires Tour
Not too impressive to anybody else but me, but that was the pinnacle of the band and one of the cornerstone for progessive metal and hard prog. Empire was their last great album.

Foremost. Billy Joel! The best concert I've ever seen live was Joel playing Nassau Coliseum on Long Island. No one including the band wanted the show to end. I've also seen him at Yankee Stadium and MSG (x3).
Van Halen: Diver Down, 1984 (both MSG)
Van Hagar: Balance (Atlanta Lakewood Amphitheater)
Motley Crue: Girls Girls Girls (Guns n Roses opened) (Omni Atlanta)
U2: Achtung Baby (I think it was called Zoo TV Tour; Omni Atlanta) I would argue that this was JUST past their prime; being Joshua Tree. My wife saw them then.
The Jacksons: Victory (Meadowlands)
Lollapalooza: 1992. The lineup included RHCP, Pearl Jam, STP, Ice Cube, et. al. (Atlanta Lakewood Amphitheater) I got to see the main stage from the photography pit. I was working with a college newspaper and had a press pass.
Duran Duran: Seven and the Ragged Tiger (I was right near the stage at MSG)
George Carlin: SUNY FarmingdaleLast edited by Allie Fox; Jan 14, '11, 3:49 PM. Reason: Forgot which VH Tour it was in ATL. I knew it was 1995.If I had only spent a tenth of the time studying Physics that I spent learning Star Wars and Baseball trivia, I would have won the Nobel Prize.Comment

I was a concert junkie in my youngun days. City Island in Harrisburg was concert heaven in the late 70's and early 80's.
Scorpions
Night Ranger
.38 Special
Def Leppard
Motley Crue
Accept
Ratt
Night Ranger
Journey
REO Speedwagon
Styx
and many others I am forgetting
I did see the Beach Boys in Reno back in the 80's as well.
I never got to see Van Halen or RUSH back in the day and those have been my two favorite bands forever. I finally got to see RUSH last year in Allentown and have tickets to see them in Hershey in April.Comment

I saw Journey during the Raised on Radio tour and Styx's Return to Paradise tour. It was probably far from their prime, but both made lasting impressions on me.I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

Just a couple:
- Julian Lennon ('83), actually one of the most fun and energetic shows I ever saw.
- McCartney ('90) with Linda and an awesome set list (Pepper live..). Past prime..?
- Stones ('06) with Bigger Bang tour (yeah, a bit past..)
- Bob Hope in '85.., great to attend a show by the late great Mr. Hope.
- Paul Simon in '88 (Graceland tour), not bad
- Rodney Dangerfield in '82, NEVER PAST HIS PRIME.. And they were $10 tickets?!?
- Monkees in '86 and '97; only reunion tours but did get Mickey's autograph, so that was pretty hip.
And the one I missed..??
Spinal Tap, filming their concert footage of their movie at my college (UW Milwaukee) a block away.., one night only

I really enjoyed KISS's "Hot in the Shade" Tour. It was a great non-make up show. Plus Slaughter opened ( I loved those guys) and for their encore Sebastien Bach came out and did "Back in Black" with 'em,. That kicked ***. Follow that with Ted Nugent in his coon tail Gonzo goodness and then of course KISS. Eric Carr's drum solo was amazing that night.Comment
