The strange state of the NFL

WHat a weird year, and the aftermath is more confusing.

The Dolphins are trying everything they can to sign unproven Harbaugh and make him the higest paid coach in the league. They haven't even fired their current coach. Classy.

The Bengals re-hired Marvin Lewis after the most disappointing season in memory. Then they say they are just a few players away from being great. There is no hope in this town, or apparently common sense.

The Raiders fire Cable after an entertaining season in which they showed vast improvement. Last year, this cro-magnon was involved in a case of battering two women. So, go 3-13 and Ike Turner some ladies and keep your job. Keep yourself clean and almost make the playoffs...bye! Davis has lost touch with reality.

The Seahawks are in the playoffs with a losing record and a home game.

The Cowboys can't promote from within a head coach until they interview a minority candidate. I'm fine with the Rooney Rule, but this goes against the spirit of it's original intention. Going through the motions and talking to a perspective coach who has ZERO chance of getting the job is a waste of time, money and all reasoning.

Favre is gone. It took a few concussions, a separated shoulder, some lewd text messages, a passer rating slightly higher than mine and pictures of his deformed crotch junk to pry him loose.

The Falcons have home-field throughout the playoffs? I forgot they even had an NFL team in Atlanta till about week seven.

    Strange, strange year.

Harbaugh is extremely popular in the Bay Area...I predict he'll land with the 49ers.

Yes, Cable was just getting started...the Raiders went 6-0 in their division, they swept the Broncos, Chargers, and Chiefs...and most of the games they lost were very close. I hate Al Davis with a passion.

1st of all ..., They were on a ton of people's picks for a possible Superbowl Contender.

2nd of all, what they did Wasn't "sneak" . They earned that Spot, and Kicked Arse to get there. I think they are Better than Chicago, and woulda had a few more W's if thier Injury report wasn't a Mile Long.

My sentiments exactly. The Rooney Rule should be void if an organization is promoting from within. I can't believe, with all of the "great" NFL minds that work in the system, that somebody didn't figure that out.

I think we are starting to witness the parity that the NFL was hoping to accomplish years ago. With the exception of a few teams, it seemed like most games could have been won by either team. As much as it looks like the Patriots will probably be the AFC representative and probably right now a toss up between the Falcons and Philly from the NFC; I'm looking at every single team sitting in the playoffs and it is a complete toss up at this point. I wouldn't even throw out the Seahawks just yet even with a losing record. It has been a weird few years just more magnified this year.

GO STEELERS!!!! I definately feel bad for the Bucs not getting in and the SeaHawks making it but that just how it is. I think Oakland should try to get Gruden back or go for Bill Cower. I hope the Ravens get a chance to play the Steelers again to see who is the real AFC North champs. I see the Jets winning and the Eagles winning this weekend. The Saints is a no brainer. The AFC if the Steelers don't go then anyone but the Patriots. I think Atlanta will go to the big show this year.

The owner of the Bengals has got to be the biggest moron to ever run an NFL franchise. I wonder what the coach has holding over their heads? I bet next year will be the lowest in fan turn out at their stadium. If I were a fan, I would revolt.

Don't forget the Redskins. They bench their star QB because he doesn't know the 2-minute drill offense. Seriously?

Then give him a MEGA contract, then tell us that the contract is voidable. Jeez, weren't they a mess this year.

The big mess with the Redskins is that Shanahan talks out of both sides of his mouth. Maybe this is his M.O. but it doesn't go over well in the D.C. area since we already witness enough of this nonsense in the political arena. I believe he first said that McNabb was injured and didn't want to cause further injury, then it was the two minute drill, now it is that he hasn't quite grasped the complexity of his offense, sheesh enough with it. I'm not a Philly fan but McNabb has always been a top notch player and has not been known to bad mouth coaches, players, etc. If things are not a fit, at least let him play out the rest of the season and leave with dignity. We were already out of the playoffs and they didn't need to "test" Grossman. He's played with Kyle before and there's no doubt he's a decent backup but not a starter. Let McNabb play out the year and trade to someone who feels they can use him. The Redskins are so messed up in so many other areas; that I don't blame McNabb for the problems.

As a side note, I'm guessing the contract extension was nothing more than a bargaining chip to be used to trade him for another player or picks. Otherwise, I think he would have been an unrestricted free agent. In retrospect, I don't think they ever had any intention of keeping McNabb on past this season unless he had a stellar year.
