Temperature was my first thought too, not just for the batteries but the actual camera mechanisms. There should be a manual on the disc I am presuming it came with, which will define operating temperatures.

What is the make and model number Sharry?

It didn't come w/ a disc, you just plug it into the computer. It's a Kodak Easy Share C142. The house isn't that cold. The heat has been on most of the day, and it was just as warm (or cold) on Christmas day and it worked fine. And besides, what about you guys who take pics in the snow? Surely it's colder outside in the snow than it is in my own house.

Have you tried a brand new set of batteries? Digital cameras chomp through batteries very quickly.

          Troubleshooting guide for your camera:
          Troubleshooting

          User guide for your camera:
KODAK EASYSHARE C142 Digital Camera — Extended user guide

There is also a Support tab there where you can ask for further help.

Failing all that, I would think about returning it. Fingers crossed for you.

Just a thought....I know my camera you have to hold down the power button for a couple seconds to turn it on. Maybe you just got lucky when you were using it before and didn't realize that? (assuming yours works the same way)

What are you doing with a digital camera?

What happened to your manual Pentax K1000?

I'm disappointed...I thought you were old school all the way...

Actually, I am old school. You obviously have not been reading my posts since Christmas. This camera was a gift and I'm ready to chuck it out the nearest window. And for the record, I have an Advantix, not a Pentax.

If you learn how to take great pictures in the Pentax K1000...you can master any other camera on Earth with ease...it's completely manual...not an ounce of automatic features...nada...

                        Just messing with you, Sharry...

But my old Pentax is even more old school than your Advantix...yours has auto focus and timer...and all other kinds of creature comfort goodies.

The Pentax has no such comfortable things...100% completely manual...you have to even crank up the film by hand...

The K1000 had fewer features compared to higher level SLRs of the mid 1970s. It had a slower flash synchronization speed of 1/60th second, a lower-quality sleeve-bushing equipped shutter and film advance mechanism, no self timer, no depth-of-field preview, no mirror lockup, no interchangeable focusing screens, no motor drive option, and no autoexposure.

                        I win!

Not really, 'cos my Advantix isn't working right now, and I've been using disposables. In fact, I used 8 of them on the cruise!

                            I WIN!

My Kodak won't stay on if the batteries are dead. You have to use special batteries for digital cameras. Alkalines won't last an hour. Lithium Ion's work well. Kodak has a number of kits they sell that have a charger and batteries as well as a case. I have seen them numerous times on clearance at Staples. I've gotten them as low as $6. Shop around they can be found for a decent price.
It's not a doll it's an action figure.
