Wake Up, Geek Culture. Time to Die

Brilliant piece about geek culture by Patton Oswalt, this comment hit close to home:

Ever see action figures from the ’70s, each with that same generic Anson Williams body and one-piece costume with the big clumsy snap on the back?

I read that yesterday, and followed some of the support and backlash on twitter. I think Oswalt is great.

I saw that a few days ago, it as a great read.

I could swear that that comment about the Mego was different when I first read it. I remember it saying something to the effect of "Who hasn't looked at one of these and thought it could be better?" I thought that was an interesting comment given the rebirth of the format started as an attempt to replicate exactly what had come before and now seems to be faced with the need to improve upon it.

I think he makes quite a few salient points. I mean, the fact that you can't turn around anymore without seeing something connected to Star Wars makes me die a little inside.
