    Marwencol: 1:6 scale documentary

Anyone heard of this? Looks amazing. This guy was beaten up and got brain damage and has spent most of his time since making this world out of 1:6 figures and taking amazing photographs of them. Check it out, it may be playing in your town.

Dying over here waiting to see this! It started out as a segment on This American Life season 2 (I think that's Showtime, but it's on DVD also).

I keep hoping it will drop in on our local museum's little movie screening room.

It's on Netflix streaming now. Watched it last night.

Coming on PBS Independent Lens on April 26th. It's fascinating stuff, but it throws in some curve balls. Truth is stranger than fiction. It's worth your time, but may leave some feeling a little uneasy.

I put up a review of this film, right here: Infinite Hollywood: Movie Review: Marwencol

If you're interested. I tried not to "spoil" it, but I let people know what the film is really about. Hint, it's not toys.

Great Documentary. Very interesting... I feel the film is much more about him coming to terms with his sexuality and his cross dressing, rather than the dolls, though. The doll stuff is really cool and exceptionally well done, but I found the scenes of Mark trying to decide whether to show up at the gallery opening in his high heels or not, way more compelling and tense than the 1:6 scale, WWII village. I think it's really fantastic that he discovered the therapy for him to recover from such a horrific event, was to build a fantasy world where he could prevent anything like that from ever happening to him again... The scenes with him "walking" his little jeep, were priceless.

The most intriguing part of the entire film though, was when he dressed the Mark doll in heels and stockings, to see "How he'd feel in them" around other people, especially women. Truly remarkable behavior.

Cross dressers are an interesting bunch. I shared studio space with one in the mid 80's. Guy was totally hetero, loved women, but walked around the studio in skirts, lingerie and stiletto heels all day... Fascinating.
