    Steve Landesberg passes away

Veteran character actor Steve Landesberg dies - Yahoo! News

I watched a good amount of Barney Miller growing up, and Dietrich was my favorite character. His dry, sarcastic humor really spoke to me..

I was always amazed when I'd see him in roles years and years later (even recently), and he looked just the same to me as he did on Barney 30 years ago..

Abe Vigoda caught a mutant strain of Vampire/Zombie Flu 259 years ago. He still ages, he just doesn't stop ticking. Landesberg was such a good actor he made it look like acting was the easiest thing in the world.

                  TOTALLY..!!

I love this writeup at Yahoo...:

"Landesberg's Dietrich was noted for his endless knowledge and expertise on seemingly every obscure subject imaginable, which was coupled with a sometimes patronizing attitude. He once refused to wish a Happy Thanksgiving to a fellow officer, explaining he was an agnostic and wouldn't know who to thank."

I didn't start liking 'Barney Miller' until he came on board, then I simply could not get enough of him...!!!

He was best when he'd get that 'smug' smirk after leaving characters like Harris or Barney baffled..

                  Oh, HE will be missed.

Thanks, Sideshow.. I need to download/add those links to my iPod..!!

                          Another Barney Miller sidenote:

I always loved it when Jack Soo's character cleaned the coffee pot (after so many years...), and everyone was so disgusted with the coffee taste.

THAT always cracks me up here at work...

Remember when Dietrich took a lie detector test and when asked where he was born, responded, "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away."? The lie detector showed he was telling the truth and all of the other Detectives were all suspicious of him until he finally told them the truth.

I thought he was funny in Forgetting Sarah Marshall and perfectly cast for the part.
