It's totally do-a-ble. My Friend who is no electronics Wiz...used an online tutorial to repair his from the 3RR of death. He said it cost him about $12.50 in Parts.
Did he fix the case or just reflow the chips? If you don't address the underlying issue and correct the mainboard warp (which is *not* from the x-clamps, at least not entirely), there's a chance you'll be right back where you started eventually...
