My first memory of McNabb was in 1997 when he was at Syracuse and they played Oklahoma in Norman. I was in the stands rooting for Oklahoma.
McNabb was sick, but he played.
There was a play when Syracuse was driving toward a score and McNabb got under Center only to step back and puke in front on 80,000 fans... on the road.
The Dude just shook it off, got back under Center, and kept on driving.
That was all me and my buddies could talk about after the game. "Can you believe that Dude?! How can you puke in front of 80,000 people and keep from crawling in a hole?".
Ever since that moment, I've thought he is one of those guys who will always just suck it up and keep on trucking.Comment

If I wasn't living in Oakland...I would've given up on them long ago...but what can I do...I'm stuck living in Raider Nation...
Ah...I missed the days when the Raiders were feared throughout the league.
Remember when they had the absolute best record on Monday Night?
They were practically unbeatable on Mondays...lol.
Five Super Bowl appearances...with three Super Bowl wins...ah...I sorely miss those good 'ol days...
P.S. Silver & Black never goes outta style though...so I'm thankful for that...

From a "respect" perspective, its a dickhead move by Shanahan. From a true "coaching" perspective, it makes sense. The team is out of the playoffs, you need to decide whether you have the right team leader, and the worst that happens is you get a better draft pick next year, the best that happens is you learn whether you have the right tools to compete in the NFC East. Tough call, but Shanahan has a pretty decent resume, and Washington needs something to move them from the perpetual basement of one of the toughest and most consistent divisions in the League.

From living in the area, I've been able to surmise, by reading between the lines on the news reports, that there is a difference in philosophy between Donovan and Shanahan. I think that I would always want to start McNabb over Grossman any day, but what do I know. I hope he does go to Miami. I'll take him there. It's all good!Comment

God...I want McNabb to be a Raider sooooooooooo bad...like you said...he's not washed up yet...I think he has a couple of more solid years...perhaps even more...he will fit into the Raiders nicely...you know...the unwanted and outcasts always seem to thrive in the Raiders organization...

I've been an Eagles fan since '78, and have always liked McNabb. However, the knock on him is that while he's really good, he lacks whatever it takes to be truly great. Washington should've known this when they signed him. Given the rest of the insanity playing out down there, McNabb will probably be very happy to leave that all in the rearview mirror.
I see him as a good fit in Minn, or maybe SF. He could hook back up with Westbrook, mentor Troy Smith...I like it.Comment

Some NFL talking head said Arizona is likely where he'll end up next year, for reasons both personal and professional.Comment

Apparently, there's speculation that Washington is trying to lose games in order to improve its draft position. No idea whether there's any validity to this, but it's an interesting thought. Nevertheless, I'm starting Dallas' D in my fantasy league.Comment

It is the only thing that makes any sense. Word around here is that Washington wanted Bradford last year but the Rams had the #1 pick and they weren't going to negotiate. The Skins are burnt toast and rumors are swirling that Shanahan has benched McNabb and wants to lose the rest of the games so they can move up into the top 5 picks and grab one of the 3 highly coveted QB's coming out of college. I have said this before, the D.C. area only cares about the Redskins and all other D.C. teams play second billing. It doesn't matter that the Capitals have one of the best teams in the NHL (even though they have not done so well the last 8 or so games)...they hardly get any coverage. It is all Redskins, Redskins, Redskins...doesn't matter how good or bad they are. My brother made a really good point the other day about us Redskins fans. For whatever reason; we always think our team is better than it actually is...every season, I look at the schedule our players and think "we should make the playoffs this year no problem" Meanwhile teams like the Lions, Rams, Vikings, etc. who we think don't have good teams are probably circling the Redskins game and putting one in the win column for them."The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."

As a side note, Shanahan is being severely criticized first year and not because of the bad record. He seems to be speaking out of both sides of his mouth. When the whole Haynesworth thing was brewing, he said Haynesworth was injured, then he wasn't in shape, then he had the full support and backing of management, next thing we know he's suspended. McNabb gets benched weeks ago, we were told he was hurt, he is offered a contract extension, then gets benched again and apparently will not be playing for the Redskins next year. The fans around here don't like this kind of treatment. Be upfront and honest with us from the get go. It really doesn't matter that he is a successful NFL coach. If he continues doing this, he will be run out of town, by the end of next season."The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."
