    Something else i've noticed ....

Young people have a tendency (generally) to walk right past people with not so much as an acknowledgement they are there.

It's like they make an effort to not have eye contact no matter what.

They might think this is "cool" but I take it as a sign of weakness ... Like a beta dog doesn't eyeball the alpha

Actually, a lot of the young people who I work with marvel that I'm up on everything that's happening in their age group.....but i tear them up for not knowing anything from the past.

A generation with computers and history at their finger tips and all they want to do is text each other about nothing.

Sorry to say the new generation will be repeating a lot of mistakes from the past and will pay dearly for it.......

It's too much technology in too short of a time.

It almost feels like They Live aliens are behind it all.

I manage a movie theater. I have 16 year olds working there. They haven't seen movies that I assumed were common knowledge. I spend my time educating them on what I call the "fundamentals" of past pop culture. They in turn try to keep me up to date on whatever is popular today. It's how I found out that I'm old and I hate a lot of the current music lol.

Im glad there are some people out there that feel the same way I do.

The 80's to most of my co-workers is like ancient history!
EVERY day I go to work all I ever here from the girls are how "cool" such and such is not because of who they are are but if they have a nice car, are in the right "scene", Tattos, (which I have more on that later), etc etc..
The guys same thing its all about whos "cool" and has this and that.
I mean we were all young once but theres something Im noticing now more than ever...THE EFFECTS OF REALITY TV!!!..Its not good!
What ****es me off the most is that there are hardworking older people like myself at my job ( theres a handful at that) who get there hours cut cause some "cheap" teenager /early 20's needs to get some "Pot and Beer Money!!" So us people with actual bills get screwed because of this!

Anyways about tattos...I have them covered up so no one sees them. I remember back in the late 80's/early 90's THERE WAS NO WAY they would hire someone who had a piercing, tats. I had long hair at the time so I know all about discrimination.

Thanks for letting me Vent people!!

I remember when the rebelious punk look that was cool and had attitude. Now it is all mainstream. Even Hot topic (a sell out store if there ever was one) sells Micharl Jackson & hello kitty side by side. The workers at my pharmacy have more lip piercings than anyone I ever knew. Wearing dog collars in the pharmacy?
I guess there doesn't have to be a dress code of any sort, but I'm sure neck tattoos will become more common in the work place as well. It is just a new generation. I never felt as conservative as I do now. Nobody I know is dying their hair pink anymore, but just trying to hide the gray & the crow's feet.
                  Cheers,
                  Guyx1

Yeah, I guess punk type stuff is more mainstream.

My thing with that is the flip side, where all the kids in their 20s I know love bands like Bon Iver and Fleet Foxes - which sounds like dull easy listening music for old people to me - and I'm constantly wondering what happened to rebellion?

True, it even seems the ultimate rebellion music rap has even mellowed.

Instead of rap songs singing about cops and killing most nowadays are all about sex and "booties"

I was on vaca last week, and I got to spend a few days with my cousin and his kids. The kids were all pretty cool, respectful & well behaved. The oldest boy is 15. He's been in scouting for a long time, and obviously has more outdoor skills than I do. He had his ipod with him, which we browsed at the campfire one night: mostly classic rock, and a bit of modern (Foster the People...). His sister is 13. She kept to herself a bit more (probably texting her friends), but presented herself as a nice young lady. These kids were even trained to set the table & wash dishes. Anyway, there's still hope for the future. It just depends on the parents to do their jobs, and expose their kids to good music...or something like that...kinda went off course there at the end...
