Anyone Else Work Outside?

I install windows, and after 3 years my old company called me back. I am now a sub-contractor for them. Not sure how long the work will last, but I am sucking it up for now!
Anyway, here in NJ it was as cold as a witches "you know what" today!! I cool 20 degrees with a stiff 25 mph wind. Put the wind chill in the single digits all day long!
Any of you folks work outside??

Oh wow I really feel for you. I was only thinking a couple of days ago how glad I was that I didn't have to work outside.

I work for a plumbing supply company as the warehouse manager...put it this way, the building/warehouse I work in is about 100 years old. What's worse is that it was built basically over swampland...so in the winter it gets cold in there. Not to mention when I have to unload 20 foot steel pipe off of trucks...Yeah, it sucks working outside. It was about 25 degrees up here on Long Island. It sure wasn't any fun at all today.

There's a joke in here somewhere about a winter coat.

When I was in high school, I had no problem replacing a tranny while laying on cold snowy gravel. If I had to do that now, it would probably kill me. Mentally I need the change of seasons, but it's literally painful now that I'm in my forties.

Not currently, but I grew up on a farm, and spent a lot of time working out in and around the oil industry. Mostly Canada and the US, and everywhere from the Arctic circle to the UK. One thing I learned quickly, dignity goes out the window when its in the - 40's or 50's. You wear what you wear, and do what you do to keep warm...Fashion be damned!!

I do quality control for construction sites testing concrete and backfill work. Normally I get my seasonal layoff by now but this year I'm working on a site where the contractor is determined to work all winter. The key is to dress in layers! and if the last layer is a running truck with a working heater, all the better. I stay in my truck as much as possible!
