Rudolph - Behind the scenes of a holiday classic

In the true spirit of Christmas, I thought this would be a great story to post. The real story behind the classic Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer program. Did you know the family of Burl Ives still gets a royalty check every time it is shown today? But none of the other participants do. A great read with some great behind the scenes pics. Also note more links at the bottom of the article. Great stuff! Enjoy!

The guy who wrote the article Rick Goldschmidt wrote THE best book ever "The Enchanted World of Rankin Bass. It is a MUST have for fans of Rankin/Bass. It's out of Print but I'm sure you can find copies on Ebay. I treasure my copy of that book. It goes into great detail about everything that they put out.

            Thanks MIB.

Ok, I did call the elf Herbie, I do like Fame and Fortune better, (and that's on the versionI recorded in the 80s), and I always thought the doll was a misfit b/c she didn't have a nose. But it's good to learn new things about a cherished classic.

I KNEW it was Hermey, not Herbie. There is a fairly recent Golden Book version, based on the special, where the elf is called Herbie. Even the copyright owners can't get it right!

Great article. I'm a bit confused now about what I have on DVD. I recall the "Fame and Fortune" song, but I guess I just didn't realize it had originally replaced "We're A Couple of Misfits".
