The more I see, hear and read about George Lucas, the more I think Star Wars and Empire were flukes or that someone else was constantly telling him "No!"
Actually the best thing about stupid stories like this is that perhaps (I know in a wonderful world full of wishful thinking) actions such as these will drive people to seek out all the great indie stuff that's out such as "Hunter Prey".
really this is not exaclty anything new. I seem to recall a "little film" called Forrest gump which had a goof meet Kennedy and LBJ - both long dead before the film was shot, nothing says respect to a dead President more than him saying "I believe he said he had to pee".
and a commercial where the Duke was hocking Coor with R Lee Ermey
This just expands the market that they can use a computer to create a new shot as opposed to inserting something into an existing shot and getting a sound alike.
I actually like this idea. it means one day I might see a mutiple Doctor story with Jon Pertwee meeting David Tednnant

Totally different.
That section was a genuine film report with Hanks added in, not a computer generated JFK.
actually from a finanacial standpoint, it makes an odd kind of sense. they don't have to pay ridiculously high actors fees and they don't have to put up with the actor's whining and complaining all the time...
i can something like this being a coll "new thing" for one or two movies and then everyoine will not care anymore, just like 3D

Come to think of it, Robert Zemeckis (in addition to the aforementioned Forrest Gump) has long been doing this kind of thing with his "virtual directing". Though he's still working with the actual actors, given enough data he (or any future director) could easily direct digital versions of them -- he'd just need a sound-alike.
Also, around the time that Forrest Gump was in theaters he did an episode of Tales From the Crypt. The entire episode is one long, continuous shot from the P.O.V. of Humphrey Bogart. They had a voice actor do the part, and then you'd see Bogart whenever the character looked in the mirror. At the time I thought it was pretty creative.
