Anyone beside me miss Christmas Decorations from the 60's-80's? It seems in my opinion that the stuff they make nowdays is not nearly as good as decorations from those years.Maybe for me it just reminds me of christmases from my childhood. Where I live (in Florida) I NEVER see any old decorations.

Yeah, tell me about it. I did manage to find 2 foil Merry Christmas signs a few years back that remind me of the old Coke Santa posters. I use one for the front door and one for my room. I have some of the old tree ornaments, (including the star) from my childhood. I miss those old decorations you'd find in Woolworth's back in the day. The old white boxes they came in w/ red and green writing. Those gigantic tree lights! The pipe cleaner angels. Yeah, those were the days."Do you believe, you believe in magic?

Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic

My parents have a 4-foot illuminated Snowman they put out each and ever year. I don't remember ever not having him as a kid. He must be 35-40 years old now. But I love him and have no plans to ever get rid of him.
You don't see too many of those kinds of decorations anymore, at least not here. Seems today it's all blow-ups and leds. You can still find the illuminated Nativity set but that's about it.sigpic WANTED: Boxed, Carded and Kresge Carded WGSHComment

I inherited my Grandma's Christmas decorations, tree and all, so no, I don't miss them. They go up every year. My wife kind of hates some of them, but she knows they carry sentimental value for me. Plus, we add a new ornament every year.Comment

I also inherited ornaments. My parents used their parents ornaments so most of them are really old with missing paint, etc. and real fragile. I'm careful to only put a few up per year since there usually is a casualty or two. I remember we had one of those silver colored artificial trees and quite honestly can say I don't really miss that."The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."

Yep. I think with Christmas, the thing I miss the most is looking through the toy section of the Service Merchandise catalog and circling all of the toys that I wanted. Although I do miss the old decorations, I think I miss the magic of Christmas as a kid much more than anything tangible. My sister-in-law (my brother and his wife are much older than I am) still makes the same awesome cookies that she made when I was a kid, so at least there's that!Nostalgia just ain’t what it used to be.Comment

K-Mart is carrying a blow-molded Snowman, using Empire's old molds. I was tempted to bite...
We still put out our old Empire Santa. Well, he's from the 90s, but I think the mold is older. We have an inflatable Homer Simpson as Santa too, but that Empire Santa really beams and screams "CHRISTMAS TIME!" to me.
I inherited a light-up Santa face my grandparents used to own. I loved that thing, and after my grandfather passed away, my grandmother didn't decorate as much. When she passed on, we found it, and I had to have it. I love pulling into my driveway every night and seeing it lit up. Lots of great memories tied to that piece of plastic!

I'll have to check our K-mart and take a look Chris.
I also got an illuminated Lantern my parents had forever as well. We use to have 2 of them but 1 has gone missing over the years. I can't wait until I can put it out.
The other thing I got was a string of blinking bell lights. There are only 10 in the set. They used to hang across our carport when I was little. I love 'em.sigpic WANTED: Boxed, Carded and Kresge Carded WGSHComment
