You know you're getting old when (another American Pickers thread)

Was just watching American Pickers and man it made me feel old.

They went to the Amusement Park I used to go to all the time back in the day.

Today it's all run down and even the bumper cars are all beat up.

As I was watching I was thinking I could have (probably was) in some of them.

Today their just old junk ... Makes me think I aint too far away from that description myself

They bought one of the bumper cars for $500. They did say it was from the 1950's or something like that and the park closed in 1991, I think. The place looked like it was a mess but the owner made it sound like a big flood came through or something like that?

I thought it was cool that they gave the owner half of thier profits from the two banners they bought and then sold. The guy looked generally blown away.

I am going to have to make that one of my motorcycle runs next season. Sounds like an interesting place to see.

Looks like it is isn't open to the public or uninvited guests. The guy had a chain link gate on the front with a "no trespassing" sign when they drove up to the front gates. Maybe you should tell him that you're also a "picker"

Great idea. I'll bring some collectible guides and Megos with me to make me look authentic!

Maybe I will take a photo essay angle. Sounds like a great place do do some photography. I'll promise them half of any money I make from the photos.

Good episode. Been awhile since a new one has been on.
I highly doubt they'd have taken money back to that amusement park owner if they weren't making this tv show, though. They'd be grinning from ear to greedy ear at all the dough they made off that deal.

You have that right! Same thing on Pawn Stars. "The Old Man" as they call him has negotiation skills that would have me walking for the door. On the rare occassion that he negotiates a deal; he generally greets potential sellers as young lady, fella, guy etc. Maybe it's just me but I don't like a stranger saying "hey fella" or "hey guy"...and it might have been a way to greet people in a bygone era but it comes across as disrespectful to me. He also is usually pretty cut throat in making an offer. If he offers $100, the seller will try a counter-offer of $125 and he then counters with $75...not a good way to do business. There was a new episdode where someone brought in a mint clapping monkey from the 1950's with a box and it worked perfectly. She wanted $100 for it and I'm sure if the camera wasn't on him he would have countered with $75. Instead he offered $150 stating that he was going to price it at $300 and wanted to give her a fair offer. I was thinking in the back of my head (not even knowing what one sells for) that is probably worth at least $500 if not more and even though he already comes across as a crook; it would have been worse if he bought it at $100 especially when he knew exactly what it was and what it was worth.

I'm hooked on all these type shows...

American Pickers, Pawn Stars, Storage Wars, Auction Hunters, Auction Kings, etc...they are all fun to watch...shows that us collectors can relate to.

Check out the following link on these types of shows...

Rick Dale of Rick's Restorations, is the star of Pawn Stars' first spin-off, American Restoration, which premiered in October 2010.

                        Damn...I missed it!

Yeah, quite a few of these people irk me. They are very unlikable. If they weren't starring on these shows we'd probably refer to them as dicks.
Especially that guy on Hollywood Treasures. I can't stand him.

^I want to lump the dude from Hollywood Treasures in there but I can't. Not after tonight and the auction he had for Michael J Fox.

I am about to stop watching that show so i haven't seen that episode but from the ones I have seen he comes off as someone only out to make a buck instead of collecting for his own pleasure. Heck, even the "holy grail" piece he wanted so bad in one episode (the cowardly lion's Courage medal from Wizard of Oz) he turned right around and talked about how much he was going to get for it when he sells it.
