    Random Flashback: The Teacher's Lounge

Had a parent teacher conference today and we had it in the teacher's lounge.

I couldn't help but remember what a forbidden door of mystery that was growing up. I always tried to sneak a peak in there, which was impossible because of the smoke.

Seriously, I remember it being like a fog machine was running full blast. Seems like another world now.

OMG that's so true. I remember that the teacher's lounge always enveloped in smoke. You couldn't see beyond two feet. And definitely it was a forbidden area.

My school was pretty small and so was the teacher's lounge.

It sat next to our little library room.

Had no windows and was like being in a closet.

Most of the teachers ate lunch in the cafeteria with the students

For smoking, they used to stand and smoke in the emergency exit door (each classroom had one)

It was like the Forbidden Zone, an 'Inner Sanctum' for teachers and staff alike..

Did anyone here (over 40) actually ever venture in..?? What was it like?

It did and remember it clearly ....
          A room about 8' x 12'
          Painted white cider block walls
One side had a counter with a mini fridge, coffee maker and microwave.
In the centre of the room was a table with about 6 cafeteria style chairs around it.
The room was super clean -- probably because nobody ever used it

It's like you guys went to middle school with me. I don't recall a teacher's room in elem or HS, but in middle school the door/room was in a main corridor I used regularly. Walking past that (open) door was like getting punched in the face by coffee/smoke smell.

I teach at the high school I attended (I'm 32) and it was FREAKY going in the lounge for the first time. Even though I don't use it AT ALL, it was weird to walk in and see a set of stairs that led to another section of the lounge (which had a game of checkers left unattended for probably thirty years....)

The room still carries the stigma it did for me as a student though.....just strange....
