    Movies Edited for Television

Dontcha hate when they cut up a movie for no apparent reason?

Just watching "Cocktail" on Biography...I pretty much know this movie scene by scene and line for line...So it's pretty jarring as I'm watching it to see scenes cut short and dialogue totally removed besides the usual offending words.

Same thing happened with "Rain Man" last week....another movie I know by heart. When they got to the scene with Raymond farting in the phone booth they changed all "fart" wording to "pass gas" phrasing...Totally ruined the whole scene for me...

Has to be fart, not pass gas, not pass gas, must be fart, must be fart...

I like dubbed for TV stuff when it doesn't fit. Fargo and Goodfellas are probably the best, and Usual Suspects is pretty funny too.

Smokey and the Bandit ... with Henry Corden (70's Fred Flintstone) dubbing over all the Jackie Gleason swear words.

That version is funnier than the original movie

Mr. Show's take on this was the best:

this country has gotten so politically correct you can't say fart anymore????
i hate when they edit movies, i understnad for swear words and scenes to explicit fopr tv but when they do it so they can fit more commercials into the 2 hours it ticks me off. why bother showing it? I stopped watching movies on regular TV years ago.....has to be either a movie channel or netflix

Then there's stuff like "Fast Times At Ridgemont High" were there are things only in the TV version on top of the edits. How confusing is that?

Most Every Movie I like is Rated PG-13 , R or UnRated ...., So watching these on Regular TV, just doesn't work for me.

I hate it when they edit movies on American Movie Classics. I mean, if its a "classic" how can you edit it?

I actually prefer 'Animal House' on TV versus the movie on DVD ~ Less profanity, which has the comedy come out more for me.

                        Seriously.

The funny thing is, my wife and I are big Goodfellas fans, so whenever it's on TV she puts it on...which annoys me, I tell her we have the freakin' DVD and can watch it whenever we want and it's complete with no editing. But she says it's different when its on TV ... Sure it is, we've been quoting lines from the movies for 20 years to each other so we know it by heart.

Godfather 1 & 2 will be on AMC Thanksgiving day, I will peak in every now and then just to see how bad it has been butchered!

                              i Love that thumbs up.

The movie "Fear of a Black Hat" has a very funny TV print that intentionally messes with all the swears.
