Faces of distracted driving - Please read!

An important message (and one of three) to remind people of the dangers of using your cell phone while driving. Everyone should watch these. PLEASE BE CAREFUL OUT THERE!

This makes me horribly sad and god DAMNED furious!!!

STOP with the CELL phones, putting on MAKE-UP, and the most IDIOTIC and WORTHLESS 'feature' of the modern age: TEXTING!!
Jesus, whenever I even HEAR that word it makes my skin crawl...

I swear, I'm going to start reaching in windows and smacking heads...people around here do it at a TERRIBLE rate - we see DOZENS of 'texters' and other various irresponsible morons flying down the freeways at 70+....I'll tell ya, if ANYthing were to happen to ME or MINE due to some brain-dead yuppie or 'Hi my name is BARBIE'-type idiot, I'd be remaking the film 'Death Wish'.....ridiculous...that POOR woman...

I need to contract an electronics developer to create a device that disables cellular devices once the car engine is started - an EMERGENCY is an emergency, but come ON....

    Sickening...

That is rather sad. Cell phones are definately a culprit, but doing anything besides paying attention to actually driving is a big problem. People change their clothes, shave, make-up, dig for change, make a sandwich or whatever, and it's all dangerous.

I witnessed a fatal accident involving a Semi-trailer that hit stopped traffice at full speed on the highway. Killed a guy and his 3 dogs, and wounded a bunch of other people. Not pleasant at all. He was fishing around on the floor for a cigarette or something he had dropped, and wasnt paying attention. He blamed it on another truck blocking his view which was BS.

I want a device that will instantly disable cellular devices within a 100 yard radius around me at any given time. Like a mobile dead zone bubble.

Unfortunately, this won't make a difference. Nothing will.

This society, especially the younger sector, is too focused on their cell phones. They will not listen, nor will they be affected by these videos, or anything for that matter. Technology has taken control and this is basically the "Terminator" scenario, just in a different application. Skynet has taken over humanity and we are living in a society where these god forsaken phones are killing more people every day, not to mention, turning the population into mindless drones, endlessly staring into that damn little screen... Young people's sense of entitlement, regarding their phones and everything else is out of control and beyond repair.

I see people on a daily basis. Let me repeat that; A DAILY BASIS, bumping into walls, other pedestrians, losing focus or concentration on the task at hand. Simply buying a soda now, is a challenging thing for someone who simply CANNOT put that God damned thing down for 30 seconds. I see it in movie theaters, too. People texting away, with no regard or respect whatsoever, for everyone in the theater. This entire epidemic will continue to grow out of control and only get worse as technology will become more advanced.

In my opinion, this is a SICKNESS. Like alcoholism or drug abuse, etc... These kids are simply addicted to their phones, blackberries, ipods, etc... As the Metallica song goes; Sad but true...

I fully agree SC. I certainly didnt meant to come off as the "Darned KIDS - get OFFA my YARD!!" - type, but yeah, its gotten rather insane.

People (Yes, usually the under 25 set..) wandering around public 'talking to themselves', bumbering into things and laughing - all the while utterly ENGAGED in a tiny piece of plastic - Oh - and try working in the rest. business!! I have actually FIRED staff for constantly fiddling with such devices in my kitchen..."OMG" indeed Buffy!!

"Terminator" indeed sir - the whole scene strikes me as hordes of 'computer controlled' sheep living in their own little electric world...

"Do androids dream of electric sheep?" I dunno, but they sure cant take their focus away from these worthless devices! No need to CAST folks if you are shooting a zombie picture, nope, just carry your film equipment to any mall and set-up shop - you will see more pale, glazed-over, goat-eyed shufflers than you could shake a stick at - "Day of the Semi-Living Brain-Dead"!

I too agree Sandy. Kids these days are so hard wired into the laziness that technology affords them. It's nothing for my kids to say, "Oh we dated for six months." I'll say, "I never saw anyone." To which they reply, " Oh we just talked and texted." REALLY? I can't relate on that level. Then you hear about kids killing themselves from 'cyber' bullying, which I also don't understand. Kids are just lost in this virtual world and words carry so much more weight than anything we could have conceived in our day. Kids literally place their whole identity into this technology and it's a massive mistake. Their losing very important and relevant communication skills. Even basic manners and social etiquette are foreign to them. My wife and I have to constantly remind them how to conduct themselves even when we go out to eat. Often the phones are confiscated or removed before we even leave home. Its just that bad. Calling them addicts is spot on.

Good for you, dude. More parents need to take responsibility for their kids and teach them what's right. Instead of placating them, they need to stick a foot in the kid's ***, until they learn to act like human beings.

See it EVERY day as well.
There is even a law in place now that it's illegal to use a phone with either hands while driving.
No one listens. Taxi drivers and private taxi's are pretty bad. Truck drivers do it a lot. Even the police does it. Seen this on Sundays.
And it's the folks in my age range as well that's bad.
                Addiction is right!!

This stuff said above regarding kudos to parents who TEACH
is actually pertinent and poignant... while every thing else falls under
the category of: "life is difficult...and that's that.".

"Parents" ... "parenting" and otherwise educating younger, less wise
society on carefulness vs. carelessness - or, um "Goofus vs. Gallant"
(for those of you who get off on 70s childhood references).

Other than that... well, there's little to be said-- technology HELPS
as much as it hurts... and if we post on this board we're too much
of a kettle to call a pot black if we happen to disagree with what I just said.

I agree, Hue... However, I do not post on this board while operating a motor vehicle, nor do I put anyone's life at risk while doing so.

Cell phones work by satellites and towers.

It's very easy to for these to detect if the phone is in motion.

All they have to do is make a device that makes the phone not usable when it's in motion.

Perhaps just block the signal itself.

This will never happen though because there's too much money to be made by the companies if the phone remain on at all times.

That wasn't my point in saying what I said... but I understand the
misconstruing as I ran close enough to it.

What I'm talking about actually is "embracing technology overall"
...as it seems many here talk about technology as if it was an "evil" thing
                        while posting on the Internet.

By that same reasoning they should make roads have no speedlimits if you have an emergency and must get somewhere quickly.

So, if you're a passenger in a car, you shouldn't be able to use a cell phone? Look, I'm all for stiff, stiff penalties for using a cell phone while driving, but let's not go overboard.
