Ebay prediction... It's fixin' to fall...

Not to be too doom and gloom but I'm seeing a "writing on the wall" sign that the mighty ebay is on the brink of a fall. The reason I say that is because it seems that almost every other day/ week/ bi week.... they have a new "Super Promotion". From experience (KB Toys and Mikasa) when I see these types of "Man we gotta turn this boat around and fast!" actions you know that things are in a spiral pattern with the final outcome being a very large "SPLAT!"

Anyone else agree? Why or why not?

Not a chance in hell. eBay is one of the most profitable web commerce sites ever.

I agree they come up with new ways to screw us over each week. Ebay may not make as much as they used to but it is still a money maker.

They are pretty much a monopoly. Even if Google launched an auction house, I'd put money on the original.

Seriously... the mighty do fall. And considering how remarkably huge the company has gotten as far as staff and facilities, when you factor in the economy I still think it is a very strong possibility that things aren't as rosy as it may seem. I'd be curious to see what their profits are at. I'll bet you that even with their inflated fees the margin is considerably lower than in the past 1 to 3 years.

Plus if they are giving away 100 free listings that also tells me that they are indeed "begging for business"

Still my opinion but I'm just saying...

From what I've heard, ebay's profits are down, but Paypal's steadily increasing profits more than make up for it. As long as they own Paypal, they aren't going anywhere soon.

                    Ebay is a Frick'in Empire.
                    They Rule all.
Giving out Freebee's , is a Way to Ensure the Empire grows, after all they still get a cut of the Final listing Price, + a percentage of Paypal transaction.

I am behind predictions that it will suck more.

YouTube sucks now. Ads, pop ups, commercials. Ebay will give less and less. people will put up with it because we want our stuff NOW.

We hate it. We love it. It eliminates "the Chase" for us. Which is great and sucks.

I closed my account .Order something once in a while on my wifes. I didnt close because of the policies but because I lost control.

Profits may be down and that's why you see all these marketing gimmicks--and I guess in the world of big business one has to show perpetual growth.

But that said, they are still making profits! A buttload of money!

From what I understand, where as a company like Amazon was in the red for something like it's first 10 years, eBay was making moolah FROM THE BEGINNING.

No way is it going away anytime soon...

i think their sales have been slow last couple of months and hence all these promos their trying to entice buyers to spend.

It's highly unlikely, but you never know. Business in Internet Land is fast-changing and dynamic. The notion that the search engine Yahoo could be surmounted by a newcomer (Google) was once laughable. (Google actually wanted to license their technology to Yahoo, rather than be their own search engine, but Yahoo declined.) Friendster once looked poised to become the premier social connection site, until it was surmounted by Myspace. Myspace once looked poised to become the premier social connection site, until it was surmounted by Facebook. A company only has to make one or two bad decisions to give an upstart competitor the chance to steal their customer base.

Warren Buffett (the world's wealthiest investor) once said that the reason he's never invested in technology or dot-com businesses is because it's almost impossible to predict their economic outlook 10, 15, or 20 years down the line. The landscape changes too fast.
