King Kong Producer Dino De Laurnetiis Dies

They don't mention King Kong, Flash Gordon or some of his other U.S. stuff like the original 'Death Wish.'

ROME — Dino De Laurentiis, producer of some of Italy's best-known films including works by Federico Fellini and Roberto Rossellini, has died in Los Angeles aged 91, Italian media reported on Thursday.

De Laurentiis, who was born on August 8, 1919 in Torre Annunziata near Naples, also produced several well-known films in the United States including "Three Days of the Condor" with Robert Redford after he moved there in the 1970s.

He started out in film aged 20 and became one of the leading producers of Italy's post-war cinema boom and the famous neo-realist genre.

One of the films he produced was "Riso Amaro" ("Bitter Rice") by Giuseppe De Santis, a 1949 classic seen as one of the finest examples of neo-realism.

What a bummer. I'm a HUGE King Kong '76 lover. Lets also not forget he produced Orca, Halloween II, and Flash Gordon. This is truly a sad day for fans.

        Rest in peace Dino -

I'm sure that he lived a luxuriant and full life though - I would imagine that he lived the lifestyle of a Heffner, a Guccione, and a Trump. His 'camp/schlock/exploitation' films of the late 60s and into the early 80s are very important to film culture and had a GRAND impact on me as a kid. Critisize his works if youd like to, ('film critics') but to a kid and his buddies coming up, a lot of these films were/are 'EPIC'.

Thanks Mr. De Laurentiis, for your hand and eye in:

        The Witches
        The Violent Four
        Flash Gordon
        King Kong
        Barberella
        Serpico
        Orca
        Conan
        Death Wish
        Silver Bullet
        Tough Guys

        - And much more sir. Huge parts of my youth....

        Take care -

What a pity, I felt the man was often judged unfairly. I own many of his productions and consider them pop culture classics including Flash Gordon, Army of Darkness and Diabolik!

Didn't he also create the DeLorean or am I confusing that with someone else?

Halloween II, Orca and Death Wish are a few of my favorite flicks, even though I am in the minority there.

              DeLorean created the DeLorean

Similar names though for sure. He got in a mess with a bunch of white powder a while back....

Maybe the character of 'Doc' from Back to the Future was based on DeLorean's appearance and mannerisms after an 8-ball??

I'll fondly remember him for Conan the Barbarian, the best sword and sorcery movie ever.

Yeah - Blue Velvet too. Lynch has some great stories about him.
