    Steely Dan's very bad performance

Just ran across this and thought I was going to puke.

How could Steely Dan with Brian May be so lousy ?

    Note- check out May's solo

    What a disaster

    That was ghastly.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Wow. I was wanting to blame the fact that it's a house band, and of course that ****** bag Paul Shaffer, but ***an sounds horrible too. I'm surprised because I always heard he was a perfectionist and a control freak, and therefore basically hated playing in an venue outside his control. Actually I'm pretty sure it's still somehow Paul Shaffer's fault. He sucks.

          Horrible.

It's like Supertramp without Roger Hodgson. Mark Hart singing the "Logical Song" is atrocious.

yeah that was painful ... you know when you watch Brian May's solo ... it really looks like Paul Schaefer was in his way and throwing him off his game. Just see at 2:52/53 that blad head bobbing back and forth in front of May and at 3:22 looks like May is getting ****ed at Paul Schaefer. I don't blame May.

That was rough. Never have been a big Paul Schaffer fan and it was very uncomfortable to watch him on this.

                That really hurts... Lousy indeed.

Too bad, Steely Dan are one of my favorites. They DO have some great ones on YouTube though - Live 'Dirty Work', 'My Old School', and several others, recorded at various shows between 2000-2006. Most of those videos (and others) end up being played when we have folks over for booze. I will NOT be playing that video that you just linked to!

                Take care -

Oh, for those that are fans and dont know this, (or care?! lol) The band took it's name from the book 'Naked Lunch' - 'Steely Dan 3000' (or similar to that) is the name of a Japanese engine-powered...well..."device". Supposedly it was Becker's idea..
(I dont think that I'm permitted to mention the word, heh)

                  Gotta love William S. Burroughs...

I didn't know until recently that Chevy Chase was in an early incarnation of the band.

                    Chevy? You are kidding, right??

The image that popped into my head was of Chevy on stage with them, dressed in the pink shirt with the powder blue blazer and those white shoes, playing a guitar -

Chevy, ***en and Becker went to college at Bard here in the Hudson Valley NY. " My Old School" pays homage to that.
                      Great band

No, not at all. Check out the band's Wiki article...

Steely Dan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Donald ***en and Walter Becker met at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, in 1967. ***en was passing by a cafe called The Red Balloon when he heard Becker rehearsing the electric guitar.[13] He would later recount the experience during an interview: "I hear this guy practicing, and it sounded very professional and contemporary. It sounded like, you know, like a black person, really."[13] He immediately introduced himself to Becker, and asked him "Do you want to be in a band?"[13] They quickly realized that they enjoyed similar music, and even listened to the same jazz radio stations; not long after, they began writing songs together.

The two soon began playing in local groups. One of these bands, first known as The Bad Rock Group and later as The Leather Canary, included future comedy star Chevy Chase on drums. They played covers of songs written by The Rolling Stones ("Dandelion"), Moby Grape ("Hey Grandma"), and Willie Dixon ("Spoonful") along with a handful of originals

Mego Maniac Mark - I knew about them going to school there, sure. (Thats my home area - my family populates greater and Upstate NY! LOL) I didnt know that Chevy went there as well though.

Vintage Spideyfan - Thats an awesome article, very interesting.

This is one of my favorites: (My wife is ten years younger than me and had not really heard of them - only a few radio songs - now she loves them. )

                          * I always thought that this particular song was better suited for a female singer, considering the lyrical content - and 90% of my female friends agree! lol Great imagery here as well. The ladies are all quite good singers, and they look like goddesses in a few of those shots.
