    Beverly Hills Cop Appreciation thread

I just seen it again after many years...and it's still as fresh as ever...I love this movie...Eddie Murphy's best film after Trading Places (48 Hours and Coming to America are right behind)...and I especially love that cheesy 80s soundtrack...lol...

Wow...I just found out that Beverly Hills Cop was the highest grossing movie of 1984...narrowly beating Ghostbusters...I didn't know that...

You know I learned what the "F-word" was from this movie ... thank you eddie murphy for teaching an 8 year old how to use that four letter word

LOL I use that line all the time for just random stuff ... gets a lot of odd looks from the younger folks who never have seen the movie ... those who have just start laughing

I just got all 3 movies and watched the first one. I really didn't think much of it at all and am reluctant to even watch the other two now.

This is not a downer on Murphy as i just watched 48 hours and thought that was really good.

                Love it!!!
I am in agreeance, one of his best.
Little fact it was originally supposed to star Stallone...I'm sure he is still kicking himself over that one...LOL

ABSOLUTELY. "Trading Places" is actually my favourite as well (maybe my favourite 80s comedy all together), but you also forgot "Delirious"!

It's easy to remember Eddie Murphy from his weak comedies and kiddie movie schlock - but I'd argue that for 2 years, from 82 to 84 he was one of the funniest people of all time. On SNL at that time it seemed like any time a sketch wasn't getting laughs they'd just boot him onto stage to save it.

Basically nearly everything he touched in those 2 years is gold - he even nearly made "Best Defense" watchable.

Beverly Hills Cop is one of those rare movies that blew me away when I was a kid (I saw it in the theatre) - and still makes me laugh every time I see it.

Hector - Have you ever checked out Martin Brest's commentary? Is it just me, or does he use the word 'delicious' in almost every other sentence? It's very strange. Maybe I'm exaggerating it in my head - on the other hand, it might make a good drinking game.

That'd be virtually impossible...as Sly knows, just as anyone else should, that it
would have been a completely different movie had he starred in it... most all
the scenarios in BHC final cut were totally rescripted to suit Murphy's
unique comic approach...as opposed to Sly's tough guy approach.

In fact, the BHC movie approaches beteen Sly and Eddie were SO different
that Sly ended up taking "his" approach and wrote a whole new movie
around it...COBRA which fizzled at the box office... now THAT, saviour,
Sly may be kicking himself over

One of the few movies that was good through the whole series of them,Eddie Murphy was great before Disney got a hold of him and made him PG rated.
