How to make postal workers sound exciting!

I was thumbing through a Charlton Space:1999 comic and I got to the form page for mailing in a subscription for any of the Charlton comics. The copy said:

"Comics come flat, in a protective envelope, delivered to you by an agent of the U.S. Government."

Well, postal inspectors do have a lot of power, they are basically the FBI of the mail...they all pack guns as well....and make six figures...I believe they are the highest paid law enforcement agency in the nation.

I think it's a really cool way to make your postman sound exciting. I wonder how many 70's post office workers got a "Are you really an agent of the U.S. Government?" question because of that.

Now, they are government workers, boring.

So that's why stamps go up $.02 every year and the postal service complains that they don't know how to make a profit. UPS and FedEx figure it out but the postal service hasn't.

UPS and FedEx don't handle letters and first class stuff...that's a whole different animal altogether.

I still don't get why Postal Workers didn't make The Postman the #1 film in America.

I can say that I honestly believe UPS and Fed Ex rates have gone up at least as much, if not more, percentage wise than the USPS in the last few years.

Actually, FedEx and UPS will do letter for you (just costs more than $.42 and not really the type of business they want to be in).

I also realize that rates have gone up over the past few years at an equivalent rate as USPS....the difference I was trying to point out is that the USPS is a not for profit quasi government entity while the other two are publicly traded companies which needs to make a profit to attract investors. I guess I just have a different take on things since I live in the D.C. area and am used to gov't entities. My previous neighbor (going back 12 years...was a postal carrier and was completely upfront with his salary). I just about chocked when he told me how much he made which at the time was way more than I made even though we were around the same age. I don't have a beef with salaries...I just don't like hearing the complaining (lately the D.C. metro is doing a lot of it). They charge way too much to ride it and can't figure out how to break even.
