Most members here are past their 20s . So heres the question what character or costume wouldnt your parents let you dress up as for halloween. When i was 7 i wanted to be SANTA CLAUSE for halloween but my dad wouldnt let me at the time he thought a little kid dressed in red velvet might look funny so he dressed me up as peter pan

When I was about 10 I wanted to go as Leatherface.I had just snuck downstairs and watched it on TV a few nights earlier and I thought he was SCARY as HELL!
Yeah, my mom wasnt having that at all. My pop just thought it was funny.

I was able to pick what I wanted. Usually Batman, Spiderman, etc type costumes. And they were the cheap ones that came in a box with the hard plastic mask that made you sweat like a pig while wearing it.

I'm sure there is some sound reasoning behind this that is escaping me, but as it reads, it is like saying, "I couldn't go as Moe because he had funny hair, so instead I went as Larry.".Comment

I know my parents would never have spent money on any type of expensive mask for economic reasons.
As far as characters, I never asked but I think they probably would have had a problem if I dressed as Satan or something similar. Ironically, I dressed as Gene Simmons from Kiss when I was in 4th or 5th grade, and they didn't have a problem with it. Ok, let the Satan and Gene Simmons jokes begin."The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."

yea, I don't think my folks ever said no to any particular costume either. Early on, in the early 70's, it was mostly the Ben Cooper stuff. Spidey, Bats, Supes.
Then late 70's I know I had a Darth & Chewbacca.
There were a few years we made costumes. A little face paint with grandpa's hat I was a devil, sheet with holes to be a ghost. One year in my teens, we used kay-ro syrup and put lambs wool all over our faces to be werewolves.
There were a few years in my teens I didn't dress up.
Once I got to my 20's, we had our daughter. We made all her costumes at first, bought a couple, but had more fun letting her come up with ideas, showing her a sewing pattern and making it happen.Comment

My parents never had a problem with any of the costumes that I wanted to wear in terms of content, but price was a factor. Many of my costumes were made by my mom when I was young. She made me pretty cool Spiderman and pirate costumes.Nostalgia just ain’t what it used to be.Comment
