I rented it from Netflix and seen them all (season-1)

    It's horrible

They cut out ALL the popular background songs and replaced them with modern junk.

That totally ruined it for me

    I just couldn't enjoy it

They even hacked out scenes where people were talking when the songs were playing in the background.

I would pass on buying it ... unless you want to get mad

thats what I read ,but since I dont even remember the original songs used it wouldnt effect anything it would go right over my head.unless they cut the theme song which is what I loved then I have an issue

But, a lot of plots and jokes were based on songs ...

That means sometimes whole scenes were removed ...

It's worth it though just for the Thanksgiving Day turkey massacre episode and the other one where Johnny Fever and Vinus Flytrap take drinks on the air to determine what alcohol does to your reflexes. I absolutely laughed my arse off at those two. Probably the two funniest pieces of television ever produced. At $11.00 I think getting reacquainted with just those episodes makes it worthwhile.

That sucks. Probably couldn't or didn't want to pay to clear the music rights for DVD.

My favourite show "The Larry Sanders Show" will most likely never be completely released on DVD because of the music rights issues.

As with a lot of 70 + 80 sitcom the old copyright addage comes into play so who ever released this has opted to remove any copyrighted music and replace it with said songs which suck thats also why the price is cheaper it would cost less in royalties alot of the actors back then never realized or set in their contracts about future royalties to be repaid because of rerelease other than normal tv play thats why guys loke wojo from barney miller never worked much they set in contracts to pay all royalties regardless of format

For 11.00 I don't think you can go wrong. Sad that the music has been removed or even entire scenes but it will probably never be worked out. Your only other option is to DVR it in syndication and the problem there is any commercial network like Nick at Nite will cut scenes out anyway to make room for more commercials.

Even in syndication, much of the original music has been replaced with generic crap....remember that episode when the Russian dude tries to defect, and Elton John's "Hold me Closer Tiny Dancer" was an integral part of the storyline....they replaced the song and changed the dialogue in the final scene....and it made no sense....such a shame!

Indeed....and Les Nessman saying "Ch-Eye Ch-Eye Rod-rah-gweeze" when he was reading a sports story about golfer Chi Chi Rodriguez.
