All excellent points. Well illustrated.OK, let me do my best to answer some of these posts. And guys PLEASE don't take any offense by my answers. I am an NFL loving freak that will watch the 2 worst teams play. There is nothing personal here.
First, Aikman vs White? Aikman has a career completion % of 61.5% to White's 59.7% Close but not better. And in 1993 Troy completed 69.1% for the season! That is hard to top considering the Cowboys didn't run a "dink and dunk" style offense. Yes he played on a great team but he still had to get the ball to the reciever. I am not saying he is in the top 10 all time QBs (not even top 20) but he was no slouch either. One of the best of his generation.
Romo is a very good QB. If anyone thinks he is over rated just go look up his stats. I don't think he is over rated as much as the Cowboys are over hyped. It is common for a team as popular as Dallas is so I don't mean this as a slam on the Cowboys. Tony has some great stats but he has only had 4 seasons of play not counting this one. I would like to see at least 8-10 years of play to judge a QBs overall place in NFL history.
Young was in Tampa for only 2 seasons starting 5 games his first season and 14 in his second. Tampa stunk back then and Young was able to sit and learn by watching Montana play. It's hard to quantify that one.
Favre spent only his rookie season in Atlanta and only attempted 4 passes total. He was too much of a party animal (he has admitted to this) and the Falcons traded him more because of his immaturity then performance. And they got a first round pick for him even though they drafted him in the second round.
Marino was one of the greatest pure passers of all time. Sucks that he never got a ring but he can't be held at fault for that. His records speak for them self.
Montana was the best overall QB I have seen in my life time (age 45) as he was brilliant! I watched him go through his progressions and end up hitting his fourth read quite a few times. Most QBs are lucky to get to the third read. Montana was like a machine in the way he saw the field and read the defenses.

That's me, smack dab in the middle of Steeler and Eagle country! And they will be having a field day (or field months) gloating over the DC losses this year. Funny how I never say anything to them when their team loses...Well stupid me missed the fact that you are a Cowboys fan.
I would have thought since you live in PA that you would be a Steelers or even (gulp) Eagles fan. While I am sorry for the Cowboys fans to see Romo out, at least it was in a season where the team wasn't doing that well rather then during a stellar season.

lol yeah i figured, actually my ex-girlfriend in HS use to baby sit and caddy for him during his celeb golf tourney's
she got me his used signed golf gloves and I left it at her house
she joined the military and i never got them back,I still talk to her and she says if i want them back i'm just gonna have to get them myself

I would have thought since you live in PA that you would be a Steelers or even (gulp) Eagles fan. While I am sorry for the Cowboys fans to see Romo out, at least it was in a season where the team wasn't doing that well rather then during a stellar season.

No worries, I didn't take it as anything other then a comparison of accuracy which I usually equate to completion %. Actually I think White is a bit under rated as he had some pretty good years yet I don't hear his name mentioned very often when talking about Cowboy QBs.
Sorry if my post came across wrong. I meant it as a big reply to the many posts since mine. I am pretty opinionated when it comes to the NFL mainly because of the passion I have for the game. I love to talk about pro football and I always enjoy reading other peoples opinions.

Wow. I had no idea Romo had so many fans here. No offense was intended.
I based my overrated comment on pure observation, not stats. When I think of a QB, I think of a pure leader. Playing that position requires a certain mental skill set I don't think Romo posseses. There have been some insanely good QB's mentioned here in this thread. Montana, Elway, Aikman, Marino, Young and Favre all had the leadership qualities that were equal to their play. When everything is on the line, when you need to drive 80 yards in two minutes to get to the Super Bowl, EVERY player on that team looks to their QB. His attitude, confidence and presence is contagious and filters to the rest of the team.
When I see Romo play, I see a highly gifted athlete with a good arm and is mobile. He plays a little like Steve Young. What keeps him from the upper echelon of the NFL is the confidence he has in himself and the confidence his teammates have in him. I just don't see it. He should be the dominant force in the locker room, the alpha dog. He should be THE face of the Cowboys. Dez Bryant is more high profile, and that should never happen.
I want to like Romo becauswe he's a good guy. I just wish he had the fire within himself to take complete control or even defy Phillips. I want to see a Marino moment from him. I watched a game where Marino grabbed his receiver's face mask at the 50 yard line and dressed him down after a three and out. THey came back form a commercial and he was still jawing at the dude on the sideline for dropping an easy ball. When Romo becomes the leader the Cowboys need, like Aikman did, I'm on board.

Nyaaat! I wasn't comparing them or even trying to hint that White was a better QB than Aikman! I was just stating the fact that he was more accurate and one of the most accurate of all time. I can show you some clips that you wouldn't believe. And he was consistently like that. When his receivers were open, and he had a moment or two, it was on a rope with the prettiest spiral you ever did see. You should see some of his downfield bombs. Receiver wouldn't have even had to look back for the ball, just run like crazy and hold your arms out and the ball fell right in stride.Leave a comment:
