"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."
very sad. I read about this in the paper this morning. Have they said somewhere else it was a great white? the article says they have not said what kind of shark it was.

It's all over Fox and CNN news. Authorities have confirmed from the bite on the board and the wounds on the victim that it was a Great White.
Tragic and sickening news indeed but as a person who has the good sense to stay out of the sharks' feeding grounds; I have about as much sympathy as I would for someone who threw themselves in front of a speeding train for fun. Terribly tragic but it's a risk these people surely knew they were taking; all that talk about a shark attack being a one in a million chance...ask this kid what his odds were. If people must swim, use a swimming pool. It sickens me a young kid has been killed doing something that's, quite frankly, pitifully stupid.
You know something, Lou; I never start, nor do I contribute to any drama on this board and most of the time, out of respect for the mods and the great folks in here, I keep my opinions that could fuel the fire on some issues, to myself. However, in this case, I'm gonna make a rare exception.
You're an ***.
You have absolutely no knowledge of what you speak and to be frank, comparing someone getting attacked by a great white, to someone throwing themselves in front of a speeding train, is inexorably absurd. On top of that, you call surfing, freediving and other watersports "pitifully stupid"? I'm afraid the only thing pitifully stupid here, is your gross misuse of "Jaws" quotes in a thread about a young man's death, caused by one of the most mysterious and misunderstood animals on the planet.
Your attitude and banal nattering here on a subject you THINK you know something about because you've watched "Jaws" 1000 times, is absolutely inexcusable. Especially in the face of something as tragic and unfortunate as the death of a 19 year old kid. When I'm at this kid's funeral, I'll try to erase what you've said here from my memory.
Do me a favor; When it comes to REAL sharks and shark attacks, keep your mouth shut and your eyes and ears open. You have upset me and the brotherhood of true ocean waterman beyond your comprehension with your insensitivity and your ignorance.
^^
Sandy, well put.
Even in that report it almost insinuated that Lucas brought it on himself because he was in shark territory.
That makes no sense.
I have a MAJOR fear of sharks and even have crazy dreams that wake me up in fear.
But one thing I plan on doing before I leave this life is to go underwater, in a cage , and confront my worst fear. Even in my dreams it tells me I HAVE to do this.
I have major respect for SCUBA Divers since my ex brother-in-law is one and fully certified. After seeing his pictures and stories, I have so much respect for Watermen, as you put it, Sandy.
Lucas was just boogie boarding in the ocean, like millions of people do everyday and have done for decades, if not centuries.
You know fellas, re-reading my reply from earlier today I have to say I agree with you. It is indeed in poor taste and I am going to delete my remarks. My apologies for offending you and please understand both of your points are well taken.
