The airplane scene and the fall to earth from space were awesome actually.

Superman Returns needed more action, but I still really liked it. I can't believe it took this long for The Hobbit. Money usually talks faster, even with the MGM thing hanging over it.

It would be an even more messed up world if we all liked the same thing, to each his own.

I think he biggest difference this time is no one thought LOTR trilogy could be filmed. Now everyone is lining up to carve out some of that Billion Dollar Grosses money pie. The expectations for The Hobbit are very high. They thought they might take a big loss on LOTR and those films worked out far better than anyone had imagined.

I can understand how people miss certain details and characters, (Tom Bombadil), which didn't make it into the films. I have to say tho that Fellowship, with all it's changes was a near perfect adaptation of the 1st book. It moves at a good pace, the sense of urgency is well established and everyone's motivation are clearly understood. This is also why I can't understand Kevin Smith's harsh criticism for the film. Hobbits, Dwarfs, Wizards, Men and Elfs don't have land speeders-they have to walk. Sometimes they use horses but mostly they travel on foot. I think that's a big bonus because the landscapes of New Zealand really look like what you expect Middle Earth to be. It looks like they were actually there.

The timelines were shortened between events in the beginning of the film to move the story along more quickly. The Hobbits were united more haphazardly than they way they planned to travel together in the book. And Arwen was moved up to more importance in the story where it actually made sense to have her. I've read the book a few times and I agree with a lot of what Jackson, Walsh and Boyens did in the script. It seemed to make a lot of sense and they were still very faithful to the material. As for the Two Towers I cannot go into it because my Mom died 2 days after it was released so my opinions are distorted by personal feelings at the time.
