I read awhile ago the story kicking around was Cruise was the head teacher and Katie Holmes will be the first woman to go through Top Gun..

if that's true I won't be seeing it

Cruise is an oddball for sure but may be one of this generation's greatest actors. I admit it's hard to separate personal beliefs and acting ability/marketability. In this information age and everything readily available on your phone, it's easy to get the wrong impression of someone if you only are exposed to the negatives. I personally find him supremely talented.

I have a similar outlook for Clooney. It's hard for me to look past his absolute bonehead political views and comments, but I sincerely adore the Ocean's series of films. I make it a point to avoid his other work, though I can still recognize his ability.

I don't see how a Top Gun 2 can be successful. The first is perfect as is and doesn't need a follow-up. The participation of Cruise will have little impact outside of curiosity.

He gets a bad rap sometimes because of his personal beliefs and his off screen behavior, but the guy is a solid, SOLID actor. Always has been. "Risky Business", "Rain Man", "Legend", "Magnolia", "Eyes Wide Shut", just to name a few... He's really amazing.

Top Gun rules even harder... Kilmer, Tom Skerrit, Anthony Edwards, Michael Ironside... C'mon.

I'm not a big sequel or remake guy, but I can't WAIT for this.

I personally don't give a hoot what religion he follows or doesn't follow...Tom Cruise could be Christian, Muslin, Buddhist, Hindu, atheist, agnostic, etc...it doesn't make a bit of difference to me...all I know is that I enjoy his movies...and that he's a very underrated actor.
