Since most of the members here would be about the same age as myself I'd assume they saw the same films and read the same books in school. There were 3 of these that I kinda recall but would love it if anyone else could provide more info if possible. Here's what I can remember:
1) The story : In 7th grade Reading class, around '78-80, there was a book on Humor that had a story in it about this boy who, for fun, goes out to the swamp and talks to the frogs while at the same time using them for target practice with his .22. He finds a living dinosaur, like a brontosaurus, and soon trains it to stomp on stuff for treats. Soon various places like the school are suddenly & myteriously gone. At the end of the story his mother finds out about the dino and chides him about it, the boy tosses the dino a treat and tells it to "Step on mother".
2) The science film : 9th grade science '81-83 There was a short (about an hour) science fiction film about terra-forming Venus (or Mars). A lot of preperation and checking that there wasn't life there already. After they start with terra-forming the leads find dead worm-creatures that had had underground cities.
3) The driver's ed film; also '81-83 : Set in a morgue, an attendant finishes cleaning up and turns out the lights, suddenly there is a spotlight on a man in a black suit (Death?) who pulls open the morgue drawers and the people inside tell their stories. Can't recall the first bit but after it Mr Death opens a drawer with an old lady who says she died of natural causes, he apologizes and closes the drawer and opens another one. A guy tells of a bunch of kids (scouts?) he was taking camping, they were all in the back of his pick-up which flipped killing the kids but the guy survived only take his life later due to the overwhelming grief.
Does anyone else recall these or have any info on them?
