    Tailgating and sports related music

So my partner is an auctioneer. Yes, one of those fast talkers and she is really great at it.
She is doing a benefit this weekend and the theme is tailgating, as in SPORTS PRE-FUNK, not following someone close behind.
So I will be running sound and looks like we want to do some ambient music that will put people in the mood or spirit of tailgating.
I have some tracks but ideally it would help to have a broader input on this to make sure I've covered enough bases. No pun intended.

    Bring it on!

    Crazy Train and Thunderstruck.

Throw some Jimmy Buffett and Bob Marley in the mix.

          Sharry,

That's a good one! Perfect to get people in the mood to party!
The auction is for EarthCorps so it's mostly young adults from around the world that will be in presence and former older members and guests with the green!

          Keep them comin'!!

Hate to say it, but you can go old school with ESPN Jock Jams, its been associated with sports so long, its almost considered standard stadium music now...

Just wanted to thank those that made suggestions for the music.
It was a huge success and got many compliments about the choice of music. It was great seeing the crowd of all ages dance and enjoy themselves.

              Even the organization was pleased:

"Thank you again for such a great event last Saturday! I heard nothing but great feedback on the sound this year –that is a huge success for our event, where sound quality has always been an issue. It was really was due to your expertise and for selecting such a great configuration on equipment and components and we’d love to work with both of you next year."
As much as I love running sound for all sorts of events, my heart still lies in doing sound for bands.

Thanks again to this great forum for all your help.
Now this is why I like this forum.

I just watched the first episode of Auctioneers on TLC (looks like they are trying to jump on the Antiques road show/Pawn Stars band wagon). The couple of items that they followed and sold weren't anything spectacular but it was interesting to hear them talk about the auctioning process and different techniques they use to bring in higher bids. One is putting people in a good mood (like your friend did with the music). I never thought about this but they said they will try to keep two competing bidders from making eye contact and will sometimes physically place themselves in front of one to help prevent the eye contact. They don't want the bidders making any kind of emotional connection. The whole process would make a good sociology experiment.

Auctioneering is very interesting to watch and is by far an art. Every auctioneer has their unique style. There is a school for auctioneering in IOWA that many have attended and it's a challenge but fun
My girlfriend went there and learned a great deal and opened her eyes to a whole different world.
You are correct in it counts to put people in a good mood. We knew there was going to be spirits served so we made sure the sound was pleasant, the lights were not too bright, the temperature was comfortable and atmosphere was exciting. Music, we all pitched in to figure out what would put people in the mood. Older crowd meant some mellow and rocking classic tunes. Younger crowd more hip and energetic. A fine balance was created and came to complete succesful fruition.
All factors to take into account.
In regards to technique, they all vary. You have to size up the people and usually this happens before hand. Jennie goes and meets the people. Feels them out and see what they are about. Mostly the big bidders. Again, she only works for non-profit organizations and not private. Private is a whole different world that can get ugly and I've seen it. Cold and impersonal to say the least. But these places are perfect if you want to just focus on taking the money and run mentality.

Here is Jennie from last year doing a benefit for REEL GRRLS, a organization that encourages females to be movie makers. This one was cake since the bidders were really wanting the item.

I brought up the idea of making a documentary on this subject. It is very fascinating and as you stated, a great sociological, and psychological, study of human behavior.
