    Jonesing for some 70s Halloween!

Even though now that I'm an adult, and Halloween is a big fat letdown, (Well, it was when I was a kid too), I still get into the preparation. Hardly any Trick-or-treaters come, but I still decorate the windows, hang a sign on my front door and put an LED pumpkin in the living room. I even bought a lawn sign w/ Snoopy lying on his back on a pumpkin that says "Trick Or Treat", hoping to attract more local kids. I pulled out my spooky 70s Halloween records today. I keep going to Walgreens, wishing I'd see some Ben Cooper and Collegeville costumes, (even though I know that'll never happen), and even going through the archives here on MM about the old Collegeville and Ben Cooper costumes. I'm looking foward to dopey construction paper projects w/ my pre-schoolers, and making caramel apples and cookies for our party at school.

    Am I crazy???

Hells donkeys remember when people MADE costumes? I remember one 70s halloween with two indians rowing a cardboard canoe down the street. Old sheets were sacrificed. boxes became robot parts, Dad and moms old love beads became a part of hippy outfits.....And you could go tricker treating for miles before everyone got scared of apple razors and candy pins......

I miss seeing the Beistle cardboard Halloween decorations in stores. None of the stores around me carry it. Love the art style. Spooky but with a sense of fun and whimsy. The stuff I see now is generally either too morbid or too cutesy.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

The wife and I went to a big Halloween store yesterday, life sized Freddy and Jason? dead zombie babies? A lot of this stuff isn't really age appropriate or in good taste IMO. To me, Halloween is for kids.

We've bought a lot of vintage decorations over the summer and I build a new guy every year, this year I'm doing a life sized Sleestak.

We're pulling out our decorations today. Lot's of stuff I had as a kid. Our kids love it and it's a blast for me too.

They have them all over the place here in Atlanta, GA.

Although I totally respect your opinion about Halloween being for kids, I have to say that the reality these days is that it's a HUGE party holiday for adults. The stores probably make a lot more money selling adult costumes and accessories than items for the kids.

I agree the Zombie babies are just gross. I miss me some seventies halloween! Maybe Halloween should put the zombie babies on hold next year and do a theme of seventies halloween for next year.

Yep, I think they're groovy. I mentioned a while back in the Monster High thread I thought they would be really popular this Halloween.

I'm in full agreement about Halloween being for kids. Even though my mom wasn't big on it, I had costumes all through grade school (mostly witches, I was kinda stuck in that for awhile). And I always celebrated at school and church. As for the monsters, I think it should be kept Universal Monsters, and B-movie stuff like aliens, mad scientists, the Blob...stuff like that. That's just scary enough to be age appropriate in my opnion.

And you're making a life-sized SLEESTAK??? WOW! Can't wait to see the pics of that!!
