New Price is Right

Okay, I just watched all of one contestant on the new Price is Right (You can watch whole episodes at cbs.com) with Drew Carey. I was happy to see that the aesthetic of the show hasn't changed: Same music, graphics, lighting, style. But Drew just isn't making it. He's fine, but he kept calling the contestent "man" and his style is too chummy, too contemporary. Bob had that old school style--charm and elegance, and a classic radio smooth vocal tone. It's just not the same and I don't think anyone could do it as well. I think my Price is Right fandom has come to and end.

I haven't watched it yet...I'm glad they picked someone like Carey instead of some of the other choices that were out there (Rosie O'Donnell)...but I think they probbaly should have just put the show to rest when Bob Barker retired. After all, he IS "The Price Is Right". Drew may work out for a while but I highly doubt he'll have the staying power that Bob did.

I'm going to preface this by admitting that I think Drew Carey is the man. Great Cleveland guy, and I'll always support him. I don't think that he is doing bad, but he sure seems uncomfortable right now. I think once he settles in he'll be fine, but it could take awhile.

Well Scott, do you really want to see old Bob keel over saying "come on down!". He's stuck with it for a LONG time. They might have been better off going with a no name though.

I like Carey and think he'd be great in a lot of hosting roles, but this sure didn't seem to fit. The host of this show needs to be someone that the women line up to kiss. That aint Drew Carey.

I figure if Johnny Carson can be replaced, then anyone on TV can be replaced!

Bob Barker became pretty iconic on that show, I don't know if you can really replace a guy like that.

Did they turf the funky old sets? I remember thinking in college that half of them looked like they smelled like musty old basement.

Do they still re-run old episodes on GSN ? The older Barkers Beauties were pretty hot in the 70's & 80's. I'd like to record all the re-runs I could and save 'em. That was the best period for the show.

yeah the 80's were the best times for me to,even though for some reason even the new ones looked like it was still in the 80's,the audience looked like they were still stuck in the 70's and 80's to me

I just watched this for the first time since Drew came on board, and I agree he definitely seemed to be uncomfortable. I think maybe with time it'll get better though, once he gets the swing of it. It does feel like the show needs a more "classic" style game show host though.
