Beastie Boys and LL Cool Jay? So they induct rap/hip hop artists before even considering one of the greatest and longest lived ROCK bands?

Every year they purposefully pass over fan favorites for publicity.

Eventually people are going to catch on and not even care who's in or not in.

ok I work with a guy who was prob one of the first Kiss army fan club members (jokingly). He is obsessed with them as much as some of you probably are. However I broke it down to him like this concerning the hall of fame:

When you think of Madonna and Springsteen and the Beatles, etc, what comes to your mind, their image or their actual music? In these cases (inc the Beastie boys) it is the music

However in the case of Kiss, the immediate thing 99% think of is NOT their music but the image or just Gene Simmons.. This is and will always be their problem. The music plays second to their comic like image. Now I will take it a step further-- most regular people who are not into Kiss though know the name cannot name a single song or album they did since their 70's stuff. I know Heaven's on fire but that is really it. Anything they have done after that 70's era has not had any real major impact on the mainstream at all

Likewise they have not expanded much musically at all in any direction and have pretty much played the same similar stuff over and over again

These things will keep them out forever. However I would have so much more respect for them if they ever do get in, Gene goes up and says “we do not need this damn thing”. He throws the award down and Kiss walks off. That would make them legendary and boost the respect ratings highly

I will boycott the HOF until the Monkees get consideration, seriously, they outsold the beatles,beach boys and Stones in 1966 until SGT Peppers and Pet Sounds came out. but they get snubbed and will never get considered

The more they snub them, the more they discredit their process. I guess they need publicity any way they can get it.

There was a comment above, something about 99% of people can't name a single KISS song....well, I don't know where the Hall is, who founded it, how it operates...sooo...who cares. It must be a bunch of candy *** babys.

KISS has been smeared all over the tele this past year with the Dr Pepper campaign...Dr Love....fine, there's one song.

Not a huge KISS fan, but even I think it's ridiculous. I'm a big Bob Seger fan and it took him about 10 years to get in. Considering the amount of airplay his songs STILL get, and the fact that he still packs arenas when he tours, it was total BS. Kid Rock even said so when he inducted Bob. KISS is getting the same shaft, and it's an even worse offense, since their status is more iconic.

I expect no less from the Rock and Roll Hall of SHAME... When someone like Donna Summer's name is on the ballot and her former Casablanca labelmates (KISS) aren't it shows how lame this whole thing has become. Yeah Summer was undoubtably the Queen of Disco but if we're starting to recognize sub-genres like disco and rap (LL Cool J, the Beastie Boys) instead of true rock acts like KISS then the whole process becomes ridiculous....

I actually think I agree about the songs. I think most people will hear songs like Dr. Love or Detroit Rock City but can't name the band but they see a picture of Kiss in makeup and easily identify them. Case in point...I'm watching Jeopardy last night and one of the categories was name the artist with the lyrics. I am not kidding, the first one was lyrics to Poker Face and immediately Lady GaGa, Fat bottomed Girls Queen, One of Beastie Boys songs from Licensed to Ill (these are all smart grown adults and every single one was answered)....this wasn't even the hardest question "The Call me Dr. Love" and dead silence. Alex Trebek finally said "Kiss....it's on the Dr. Pepper commercials" I almost lost my mind. I could not believe that no one knew the answer and they seemed almost as dumbfounded when Kiss was mentioned.
