Adds in the back of old comic books

Did anybody ever send in or really want to send in for something they saw in the back of a comic book? If you did what did you eventually get?

I remember once sending away for a locker of army guys and yeah they came...they were flat..Not even regular army guys... Cheapo.

There was this 2 man sub deal. "Fired torpedos and missils" I loved this as a real little kid...Luckily Mom never let we shell out the money. Wonder if any one ever got this?

So how about it anyone ever get X ray specs, venus fly traps or plans for hover craft?

I never did. But I wanted one.

Somebody bought them... I wonder how long they lasted?

Over on Dial B for Blog there was a guy there who posted under the name Nikita Kruschev. He played up the whole Cold War thing around these ads. Hilarious. He stayed in character for the entire run of the Dial B for Blog Forum.

I never got these guys either...

... however I now have a cottage at a lake that is even saltier than the Dead Sea. The only animal that can inhabit the lake is a species of Brine Shrimp...

Artemia is a well known genus as one member, sometimes identified as a hybrid species Artemia salina × nyos, is sold as a novelty gift, most often under the marketing name Sea-Monkeys.

The brine shrimp used to be harvested for fish food, and at one time was so successful that it sold shares on the NYSE. From what I understand the company branched out and began fishing other lakes; one of their scientist guys cross bred two different species of brine shrimp and marketed them as Sea Monkeys.

Does anyone know what the Giant Frankenstein was like? Was it 3D at all or just a large flat cardboard wall hanging?

Always wanted that, and of course in my early teens those X-Ray Specs had a certain appeal.

My favorite comic ads are the "send us your lyrics" types that ran in the 70s and 80s. Of course this whole industry was one big scam whereby a "music publisher" would put your words to music and press a record (for a fee of course!) all the while making big claims that you could potentially have a big hit!

I actually collect these records--the sonic results sometimes are rather amusing and absurd!

I never sent off for the Sea Monkeys, but always wanted to.

Then once I happened to get a similar thing from one of those 25 cents capsule machines at a shopping centre.

It was a little sachet, the contents of which you dumped in water, and these tiny creatures eventually started swimming around.

It was around the same time I used to buy little plastic boxes of Mexican Jumping Beans.
