Harlan Ellison's last convention this weekend, says he's dying

I know that some people here have a love/hate thing with Harlan, but he's still one of my favorite writers. The article makes me said, but I couldn't help laughing at some of his quotes.

That old ******* is still alive?
I love Harlan, but I'm amazed he's made it this long.

He was always too snobbish for my tastes, but nevertheless a colorful character who always challenged the status quo for literary and television writers and the sci-fi community in general.

We always need folks like that in life.

I also liked his introductions in the Doctor Who paperback books, proclaiming the Doctor as 'his hero'.

Sad but so in character, which oddly makes me smile. I both dislike and admire the guy, he can be a real *** but I did like his work.

It kills me to hear this....He's one of my Fav writers....I love hearing him speak he cracks me up and I always read what he recommends.

The Documentary Harlan Ellison dreams with sharp teeth is a riot.

Ditto. I used to get really annoyed w/ his commentary on Sci-Fi Buzz, but I'm sorry to hear he's dying.

A great writer, and one of the last of the "Golden Age".
Bradbury is probably 88 now and in a wheel chair.

                Anybody going to this convention?

I'm surprised he didn't charge people for the news.

We're all dying. I just wonder if he's feeling really crappy? My grandma felt bad for years before she passed.

I can't understand why anyone would want to go to a convention with him there.

I heard he's like 20,000,000 times worse than Prowse

I'll take: "Some people have the ability to seperate
a performer's 'real life' persona from their goal
of getting an autograph for their collection."
                          for two hundred, Alex.

You can think someone is a horse's a*s and still like their works... I could see getting an autograph if you're a fan of his books, etc. You don't have to "like" him personally to like what he created...
