Springsteen is a great musician, but to me an acquired taste, along the line of the Dead. I can't see why anyone would hate Seger though, as he just seams to appeal to everyone as proved by this thread. This by no means he is a better musician, just that peeps either love or hate Springsteen. imo. Me i love some Springsteen's songs, but I love all Segers songs.

For me personally, I like Seger because as I stated before, his tunes are very catchy.
Also, listening to him makes me think of any local ginmill band (which I like that kind of raw sound)

I like Springsteen, but I don't love him.
To be honest, I think Springsteen is a better writer than musician.
Many of his songs have lousy melodies, imo.

From The Greatest Songs Ever! Night Moves, by Johnny Black.

"With Richardson and his manager, Punch Andrews, on his back to get the track finished, Seger buckled down. “Hearing Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Jungleland’ got me going,” he says. “It had an unusual construction with several different bridges in it, and I realized I could do the same thing with ‘Night Moves.’ "

Obviously Bob Seger recognizes Springsteen's talent and "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery."

Bob Segar for me. I like older Springsteen stuff a pretty good bit.
Seems like yesterday Shakedown came out

We could go off topic: Sammy Hagar vs David Lee Roth

I'm not crazy about either of them, but if I could trade listening to nothing but Bruce Springsteen for an entire year for never hearing "Night Moves" or "Against The Wind" again EVER in my life - I would do it.

Ugh - through "Old Time Rock and Roll" in the pile of songs I never need to hear again too. Right next to almost everything The Eagles ever did.

Okay - going over Segar's discography I want to amend my first post. I'm not crazy about Springsteen, but I respect him. I wish Bob Segar's music never existed.

                        "Like a Rock" Yeesh!

I'm glad if some people like it, but that stuff is just not for me.

Born To Run is a masterpiece and I've never heard anything of Bob Seger's that can compare to it. Add Bruce's run from 1977's Darkness on the Edge of Town through The River and the Nebraska (my favorite Bruce album) and Born in the U.S.A. and it really all tilts to Springsteen.

However, they are both rays of the sun that is Bob Dylan.

I've heard it said that there are only 4 types of music...

                          1. Dylan
                          2. The music that inspired Dylan
                          3. The music that was inspired BY Dylan
                          4. Crap

                          Holds true for me.

I've spent massive amounts of time listening to Bruce Springsteen, I'm almost always moved and inspired by what he does.

Bob Seger can't even move me to want to buy a truck. I don't hate him, but I'm indifferent to him.

                              Springsteen... without a doubt.

If I could go back in time I'd head for New Jersey in 1975 to grab some Megos at Kresge's and then catch Bruce Springsteen playing at a club. Heaven.
