Blockbuster to file Chapter 11 within days

Hopefully after they reorganize, they will start selling movies like Redbox. That's truly the only avenue left besides online access.

They've just recently put in one of the video kiosks here. My thinking would be that they are using the kiosk as a teaser to see if it's worth keep the brick and mortar open.

Blockbuster is supposedly going to go to just kiosks or Blue Boxes, with supposedly only a few stores. After they raped and pillaged the video rental market, I say screw them. I'm not sure cloning the RedBox format will work either. They tried to clone Netflix and couldn't keep up.

Of course, it's pretty easy to keep up with RedBox. RedBox is generally pretty terrible too.

It's a shame that the death of Blockbuster isn't the resurgence of the traditional video store.

But it could be... There's still a good chunk of people who would rather do a face to face transaction and walk around the video store for way too long. I'm one of 'em.

I like the Redbox mainly because of cost and the fact that there really isn't alot of stuff coming out these days that I'm just dying to see. One down side though is I feel really stupid standing in line at a Redbox just to return a movie. For me I'll probably go the NetFlix route.

Also for the record... Blockbuster does indeed suck. Their prices are ridiculous, selection is weak and the concept of a "late fee" has always ****ed me off when you miss the drop off time by an hour.

Good riddance. The company has been run horribly for years. The execs don't know what the hell they are doing, so this comes as no surprise. They wouldn't recognize a new business model if it bit them in the butt, which is why they ended up having Netflix and Redbox hurt them so badly. I only set foot in their stores these days to pick up cheap PV Blu-ray discs, I haven't rented there in nearly 10 years because their rental prices and selection are horrible.

I really miss the old mom and pop stores that BB put out of business. Some of those stores near us were great with a huge selection of catalog titles, not just the main stream new releases that you see at BB now.

I'll miss buying cheap video games from them.

They have blue boxes at tons of convenience stores here in PA... guess that's a regional thing.

I've hated them since they sold Rhino's to Game Stop. Use to be able to buy really older games there(went as far back as the NES),then Blockbuster got the genius idea to sell it off.
